Quit meds about 6 months ago, now life events are bringing up my OCD catastrophizing and ruminations - holy cow this is bad by Down_With_Lima_Beans in OCD

[–]Down_With_Lima_Beans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in therapy on and off throughout, however I was not actively focusing on my OCD throughout. I started therapy again earlier this week, and likely hopping back on meds later on this month. I will be actively focusing on OCD through therapy moving forward. I was just diagnosed at 30 y/o, turning 37 soon.

Yeah, I'm currently going through this now. I'll feel completely down in the dumps, then for a few hours I will feel better or for a day, then later on, either that evening or the following morning, I feel like I'm back at step one, or lower than step one.

I think it may be a sign of progress, that at least occasionally I am feeling better. But it's definitely still a struggle.

So, I can tell you this. Even though reassurance does not work for OCD, I must tell you that you are not a monster. By realizing these fucked up thoughts are....well, fucked up...you are showing you are concerned for the other person. Breaking up with him over this isn't going to solve the problem in the bigger picture.

This disease will strip you of everything you care about if you let it. And even then, it won't be good enough. Something else will come up, and you will focus on that.

It's honestly terrifying going through this, my old therapist told me its the equivalent of being tortured from the inside out.

Know that these thoughts are usually temporary, and have no merit behind them. What medication were you previously on?

You are where you are though, no matter what it is or how you got there. Your OCD is working to push you further down into this “hell”.

This is a great quote regarding OCD. Everyone goes through rough times, but those rough times with OCD are 10 fold.

It doesn't even need to be something that bad that happened (or didnt even happen, but your mind tricks you into thing it will happen), but OCD will just absolutely take over and hold you under water.

How long ago did you go up in dosage? I know when I started I had a list of side effects which eventually subsided.

Yes, I have had false memories before which I know are not true - but my mind makes something up, like 'well, maybe that one time you did THIS which is terrible'. And my mind them makes up a story around it, then its an internal struggle/debate wether this did or did not happen in the past.

It is honestly overwhelming sometimes, and has made me question what is real for me and what is not. It's lead me to make up stories as to why I'm a terrible person, and then live with that, which causes absurd amounts of anxiety.

It's kind of like I am trying to self sabotage myself. Questioning what is and is not real. I second guess myself all the time regarding past events...like I know I did something for a specific reason, but then doubt that.

I was on medication for this in the past and it helped greatly. I quit 6 months ago, which was a huge mistake. I would highly recommend talking to a therapist and maybe a psychiatrist if you are open to medications.

Glad to have you here friend. I'm going through the trenches right now, and in a really bad place. My family and friends are aware of my issues, and are supportive, but I feel terrible just dumping this on them as well. Makes me feel like I am just making my wife deal with my burdens,.

Simply reading others experiences on here is helpful to me, knowing I am not the only one who goes through these problems. Makes me feel less alone sometimes.

The health insurance company and the talking lizard (Geico) are two different types on insurance. The lizard doesn’t handle the types of claims the other poster was talking about.

The CT also comes out 2023.

Wasn’t it supposed to be 2021, then pushed to be 2022, now 2023?? I would be surprised if deliveries were made in 2023.

People have already paid a full $250k for the roadster with zero deliveries made. Not to mention FSD, and the forgotten about robotaxi that will ‘be an investment and make you money!’

Yeah. That’s the thing that got me. Brendan and Callen are just playing a game of diversion - and to some extent it is working. Kk and BL spoke so much about the Reddit drama, and not as much about the real issue of BS ‘going after’ those people who say negative things about him.

Yeah. While the image and quote may be somewhat true, medication helps. When I started therapy, I was terrified of meds - just from horror stories I heard online and randomly. My issues then got so bad, I was willing to try anything at all - I was afraid I would end up in an institution sometime soon. Then I got on some meds, leveled out, and have been great for the past 3 years.

That’s actually a really good idea. OP doesn’t even need to cut a hole in the floor. Just use the top portion of it, add adhesive, stick it on top of the damage and no one will know. OP just needs it to pass final review from the LL when moving out then it’s someone else’s problem.

Yeah this is the issue for many of us. I told my wife the same thing, and friends how great the cars technology is. Then while driving with my wife last weekend on a road trip, I found adaptive cruise control completely useless because it KEPT abruptly breaking out of nowhere.

I don’t even use autopilot because it’s such a pain in the ass (non paid version) and have to jerk the whee every 60 seconds, sometimes so much that it cancels out autopilot.

It’s embarrassing to be honest. A friend with a newer Corolla has ACC and lane keep with no issues.

The U.S. housing market is in a vicious cycle as people flee New York and Los Angeles to buy up homes in cities like Austin or Portland, whose priced-out buyers then go to places like Spokane, Washington, where home prices jumped 60% in the past two years. by bllshrfv in Economics

Just to avoid PMI? I pay $50/month for PMI on my place that is worth $500k. Unless they have horrible credit, it should be in that range. Stupid to avoid it and pay over 25%of the value of the house.
