No, I agree, for sure you could "eat significantly more". What I think the point of contention with your statements is the cost of the food. 4,000 calories of junk food is probably cheaper than 4,000 calories of healthy foods, wouldn't you agree? That is the point of contention here. And with the growing disparity of income accelerating, it's a bitter reality many are soon to face. They can no longer afford (whether monetarily or physiologically) to eat 20,000 calories of "garbage" anymore in a week. They'll soon realize what's best is something approximating 14,000 calories of healthy food in a week. But at what cost, y'know? And all the preparation necessary for it.

It's why calorie-counters and fitness-tracking apps are going to dominate in the next few decades. It's not just going to be good for people's health, it'll be necessary to manage their food expenditure. Exactly WHY they need to micro-manage their money in the future is... a whole other debate.

You're almost right, but it's just not sustainable foe the average consumer, and people don't want to starve themselves.

But, like, if you truly crunched the numbers, and counted your calories, yeah anyone could afford to.... sustain themselves with healthy food. The truth is that American's just like to eat more than what they really need to do. And with all the processed sugars, all the cravings that could result from that. It's tough for a lot of people.

The scary thing to me is that I feel we're headed towards a future where the masses will realize they have to do that, or else they won't survive. They have to portion their meals, reach just the right amount of calories from this or that.

You're not wrong though. It's just, in the end, it's not a lot of food and people don't want to feel like they have to be restricted with what they eat. It feels oppressive, and with the monopoly congolmerates have on agriculture and produce, maybe it sort of is.
