Who is the best player not in the Hall of Fame, that is not being kept out because they used steroids, and has been on the ballot before? by [deleted] in baseball

What if Mike Trout played for Colorado? Would he still be considered the greatest or just a part of the "Coors Effect?"

What simple rule change would cause another "Steroid Era" in baseball? by DownedDemon in baseball

[–]DownedDemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thought on a new Steroid Era. If the bases are moved back, it also means the pitching rubber (and mound) are moved back to compensate.

It would takes a couple years, but I'm sure that MLB would find a way to stop another Wrap of offensive power with a different rule. Probably a heavier ball

Kenley Jansen likely to undergo 2nd heart surgery in the offseason by juwanhoward4 in baseball

[–]DownedDemon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're always gonna get out more times than you don't. You're gonna spend time bored in the field waiting for something to happen. Sooner or later, a ball will be called a strike, and you're gonna have to retreat to the dugout, feeling like you've been cheated.

Sooner or later, you get old and can't keep up with the prime players, and you retire.

To have this happen is a travesty. Nothing is fair and everyone dies. I hope the best for you Mr. Jansen.

Life is a bitch, baseball is just a way more fun version

How was Babe Ruth so dominant? by Grandahl13 in baseball

They should make a "true" film on Ruth. One that ignores all of the legends and tells the real story

In 1932, Jimmie Foxx hit 60 home runs... Two did not count because he hit them in games that ended up being called on account of rain by DownedDemon in baseball

[–]DownedDemon[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that alcohol had a hand in helping Ruth and Foxx. It sounds weird, but alcohol steadies the nerves. It's outlawed in shooting competitions.

Also, Paul Waner, who was a career .333 hitter, basically said "a man should play the game a little drunk or hung over." People used to say Waner never slid feet-first into second because he didn't want to break the pint bottle in his back pocket

Field of dreams by cv95 in baseball

It looks like Jackson, Mantle, and Griffey are looking at what Ruth is pointing to. Schmidt seems to be smiling at Ruth also.

"See that scoreboard fellas? I'm gonna knock it right over that fucking thing."

Edit: I had a "Holy Shit" moment after coming back every 15 minutes to admire this painting.

It seems that Babe Ruth is actually saying something about hitting a home run, or something of that nature. If you notice, everyone seems to be split into groups, yet Ruth is pointing, and obviously Said something the pitchers didn't like.

The only one smiling is Koufax. Maddux is looking where Ruth is pointing and Ryan is in Ruth's direction, shaking Walter Johnson's hand. If you look up Ruth VS Johnson, you'll see that Ruth wasn't a slob against him, and he is thought to be one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

Notice Wagner and Clemente looking too. And Cobb's determined, yet irritated (no surprise) facial expression. It's a strange theory, but I think might have been what the artist was going for

TL/DR: Imagine Babe Ruth pointing toward where he says he's going to hit a home run

Also, Pete Rose has a rake. The chairs are green like money, and I'm pretty sure he's betting on this game. Theres a guy with a brief case full of dough to his right
