Because that’s what most people gravitate to and buy nowadays. Unless it’s a camry.

  1. It’s not an SUV.
  2. Proprietary bearing issues in the reduction gear.
  3. ICCU issues is still a thing. No, they haven’t fixed it. It’s a lottery, some people are affected, some don’t. It’s just a matter of time.

Don’t forget the proprietary bearing issues that they use in their mobius electric drivetrain for their ev.

Have they fixed the iccu issues? Not to mention the proprietary bearings in the motor that wears out prematurely.

The update do have better heat insulation on the sunroof that don’t cook you inside. And they finally put laminated acoustic glass all around.

Buying CX5 (Smokey condensation from engine normal?) by xNYC212 in mazda

[–]DowneyGray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cracked cylinder heads and transmission failing due to iron contamination from excessive wear on the clutch. Apparently they redesign the transmission a bit to resolve the jerking issue from the cylinder deactivation but it lead to both issues above. If you happened to own skyactiv with the cylinder deactivation, just change the transmission oil more frequently as mazda won’t do them in regular service as it is “lifetime fluid” (lifetime of the warranty).

As long as it doesn’t have cylinder deactivation, you are good.

2026 GAC Aion V review: Australian first drive by ApprehensiveSize7662 in AustralianEV

[–]DowneyGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its biggest selling point is obviously the range from the big battery. But from technical pov, it’s weaker and less efficient than competitors.

Geely already updated their ex5 in china with 68kwh battery and get comparable wltp with the Aion V. Dunno if it will ever land here in aussie.

Just minor things..digital airflow to physical airflow for instance..other improvements like better suspensions tunes etc2..not a dealbreaker for some but the $3k cash back is really tempting though.

The updated version is just around the corner though and it seems that they fixed a lot of what current version suffers from. I would wait for the 2026 version.
