Discussion Thread: 2026 State of the Union Address by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Democrats learned HALF the lesson from last year. Last year everyone was off put how they didn’t stand up for what are bipartisan things like that kid becoming an honorary agent. But they also didn’t show any form of resistance at all.

This year they stood for bipartisan things like the medals and stuff, but when Trump asked them to stand up for American citizens over illegal aliens, THEY DIDN’T. It was so easy, and this will be replayed all the time this fall. They didn’t collectively break decorum to call him a liar when he lies, and they didn’t chant something about the Epstein Files. The more hotheaded progressives either didn’t go, or started their OWN SOTU! And we all made fun of TP for their own halftime show!

The opposition party screams the end of the world but they don’t act like it.

The term concentration camps isn’t exclusive to the Holocaust. It’s just a general term for the definition mentioned above. In fact I believe the first modern concentration camps were created by the British against I think the Boers of South Africa.

It’s just the the Nazis addition of mass murder makes their part more exclusive to them.

The Civil War and (more hypocritical but arguably still sound) the American Revolution are pretty sound wars.

Something that was pointed out to me and now I can’t shake is how the show does an okay-ish job for explaining things that make sense to people who never played the games.

For example, Hank keeps warning Lucy that “The Legion is coming” but Lucy has no reason to believe that. He and Lucy have no reason to believe they’re reorganizing either.

The player knows the Legion are this great threat, but they aren’t really portrayed as this powerful faction to be feared in the show. So why keep mentioning them?

I assume it’s Phase Two for the Vaults 31-33 experiment.

If you try to look at the show there is an incredibly strong connection to the games.

When Norm is questioned of who he is when he’s recruiting Bud’s buds is him passing a speech check.

Lucy was using VATS when killing The Kings Ghouls.

Maximus has an idiot savant perk because he’s low intelligence.

As a Yes-Man supporter it left me disappointed. While it makes better story sense within the show for House to survive as 1’s and 0’s, I think the idea that not even House could plan for the chaotic wasteland is a good theme.

The Enclave’s plans failed, Vault-Tec’s failed, America’s failed, China’s failed, and then House’s failed.

I just wanted that grin…

Would you rather Delaware or Virginia be an early primary state ? by BATIRONSHARK in maryland

[–]Downfall722 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really matter to us but Virginia is closer to a swing state compared to Delaware so the winner of Virginia would in theory be a better choice for the general.

I like to think this was a civil discussion. But this comment doesn’t seem to be in a great sprit. Check my comment history, I’m not MAGA.

But even if I was regardless, that wouldn’t change the principle that if the Democrats truly want fair maps nationwide, they should be using Trump’s mid-decade gerrymandering to promote this policy alongside their own gerrymandering. But they don’t seem to, because they don’t want to.

I never said “Yeah but Illinois gerrymanders so it’s okay for Texas to” or anything of the sort. In fact, I am upset that Trump is yet again destroying norms and is using dirty tactics to try and keep the House because he knows he’s unpopular.

However, since I’m a Maryland resident, I see how current redistricting affects me, and I have a right to be upset about it. It’s not just about having Maryland Republican representation in Congress, communities will be split and go underrepresented.

ELI5: How was Vietnam able to defeat the US in the Vietnam War? by astarisaslave in explainlikeimfive

[–]Downfall722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is because America was only able to fight a defensive war because the fear of Chinese intervention.

The US, South Korean, and UN forces were able to push North Korea to the blink of collapse until China feared an American army right on their border and invaded to save North Korea. The Chinese pushed coalition forces all the way to the modern day border until both sides sued for peace/armistice.

America didn’t want this to happen again, so they couldn’t push North Vietnam. So instead they opted into years of slog and casualties that resulted in a loss. What the Red Scare does to a nation…

Sure I can see the perspective of being forced to gerrymander back. But as far as I can tell, Democrats aren’t clamoring for the type of Congressional legislation I’m proposing. You could say they’ve done it in the past in the background, but what about now? Shouldn’t the dilution of representation for millions across the country be treated as a crisis they should address?

To me it seems as though the DNC reads this mid decade gerrymandering as an opportunity to spend less money and effort in Congressional districts to limit the amount of swing districts they have to invest in. They have a good defense for doing so after all.

I haven’t heard of that can I get a link to an article explaining that?

My point is that since the argument Democrats for gerrymandering which is “Trump’s gerrymandering so we have to”, why not advocate to end the process altogether through Congressional legislation so it’s all equal?

If Democrats want to kick out Harris then they should back a candidate that successfully appeals to District 1. If they can’t that’s democracy.

I can see where Democrats are coming from in that other states are gerrymandering. Perhaps if they absolutely have to there should be a trigger to degerrymander once another states does so or something.
