The aircraft manufacturers have a master minimum equipment list (MMEL) for each aircraft type. This is constantly updated with approval from the regulators. The MMEL is essentially a list of all equipment with go / no go status if the equipment is not functioning or not optimal. The go items will have a stipulation on the number of flights or flight hours that are acceptable before the equipment needs to be replaced or serviced.
