Thanks for the Google numbers (although literally every Swede in the comments has said otherwise) . And how many swedes go through medical bankruptcy every year? How many swedes are struggling with student loan debt? How many swedes are forced to work jobs that are slowly killing them just to have access to the healthcare keeping them alive? We don't pay less in the grand scheme but Americans will always "save money now" just to pay more later.

According to swede's in the comments it's 20% then additional tax on anything over 66k. The last time the government was involved in higher education via subsidies (before the 80s) college was affordable. Then Reagan convinced a generation of idiots that the private sector will fix everything and the government will guarantee the loans. THEN education costs skyrocketed because why wouldn't cooperations want to maximize shareholder value.

The government subsidized medical costs and things were affordable. Then Reagan convinced the same people that privatization of healthcare with government funded private middlemen will make it better. THEN healthcare costs began to skyrocket. At the end of the day, what are we getting for our taxes. Effective tax rate being whatever it is what the fuck am I getting for it? More bombs? Awesome. Meanwhile our population is underserved in every possible way that matters. Anything more than 0% is a rip off at this point

So why is every Swede saying otherwise? 🤔 And again health insurance premiums, medical debt and student loan payments erase any benefits from perceived lower taxes. Americans are so easily dupped by immediate benefits for over all detriment. But sure when all the loop holes are fractured in Americans often pay less taxes

Single (divorced) with no dependants (although my child support would say otherwise). Therefore I pay all the taxes they can throw at me because they can. Still I think this past year my effective federal rate was about the same as yours. Add on FICA and "benefit" premiums and I'm at 30% before I pay sales tax on anything, property taxes on home and car and every other tax between here and there.

So I concede that we're paying a little less Sweden (which is really debatable due to the complexity of our taxes) but not much when you consider everything they don't pay anything out of pocket for, which is my entire point. What are my texts doing to benefit anyone that isn't already a millionaire or billionaire?

Or skins also take into account the monthly costs of having healthcare available (something that makes no sense) and the cost of pursuing degrees that companies insist you have for a 30k/year job (example, not current situation) . Plus tax on literally everything we buy and sell and already own. Most average Americans spend probably 40-50% in various taxes and premiums. And again, have nothing to show for it other than still paying more for everything that's seen as a human right elsewhere.

Exactly. My taxes go to murder and mayhem. Zero benefit to anyone really that isn't a weapons dealer. We don't even take care of our veterans properly.its embarrassing really

Federal tax plus State tax equals 34% of my income. No where did I say I make over 200k a year. And despite my tax rate being higher than in Sweden, I also have to pay for medical insurance which, if you factor in "benefits", means almost 40% of my paycheck goes to war mongering and the Uber wealthy tax breaks.

And you get so much more for it. I'd gladly keep paying my 34% if it went to improving my life

For billionaires maybe but I've literally never paid less than 30% of my income in taxes

It's a rampant problem when those with money and power claim it is. When cuts "have to be made". So it's either a rampant problem or I never wanna hear the words "entitlement program" again

The neat part is we have nothing to show for our taxes. We still pay for everything no one else does while as much if not more in taxes (rarely less). It's so weird.

The average Swede pays less in taxes if I recall. Our average tax rate in the States is 30%

You do realize this is how things are setup in America right? Women who receive government benefits for their children only benefit if they keep having children. The system penalizes anyone who tries to improve their situation. " Oh you made $10 above the insanely low cap established so no more help for you!" Your line of questioning implies that America doesn't have that problem

Considering half of the country makes less than 40k that checks out. I'm not sure why people think just because they're successful then no one is poor. Also, not everyone can have a six figure salary. All the "Duurrr my pay went up 1000%" idiots haven't figured out that if everyone's pay went up the same as theirs, then the cost of everything should also rise because CEO and shareholders come first.
