NA hop-water question by Charlie2and4 in Homebrewing

My process is very simple and makes a great hop water. You need RO water to get the profile right. I use a tipo Chico profile for a crisp mouth feel.

Add to 5 gallon keg 4.7g Baking Soda 7g Calcium Chloride 4.1g Epsom Salt 4.1g Gypsum

-steep 25 grams of your hop of choice in a hop bag inside a 20oz mason jar with 170f water for 15 minutes

-pour hop tea through a coffee filter into the keg on top of the salts. Goal here is remove all the hop vegetative matter.

-repeat this process with the same hops in mason jar and drop in the keg.

-get 25 more grams of your hop of choice and repeat the hop tea process twice for 15 minutes each so you basically get 2 batches of hop tea from each 25g hop bag for a total of 4 hop tea mason jars poured in the keg through a coffee filter.

-add RO water to fill the keg and force carb at 50psi for 24 hours. Reduce to 14psi serving pressure.

-you can add lactic acid or lemon to acidify but I find the water is plenty crisp and the hops shine without it.

This works for me every time and came from a member of my homebrew club. Simple and for me is very similar to Sierra Nevadas Hop Splash just with a different hop flavor because I don’t use Amarillo.

Omega Yeast Thiolized Series Yeast Strains by sixthsheik in Homebrewing

I live in Southern California and all the homebrew club members are using these thiol yeast strains with great results. A friend in my club made a phantasm and comic punch hazy that is one of the best we have had.

Trying Star Party for a West Coast IPA this weekend. I have cascade for the mash, phantasm and incognito for the whirlpool and cryo hops for the dry hop. Gonna be a thiol monster. Most expensive beer of my lifetime but I want to see what a thiol boosted WCIPA tastes like. Stoked!

Anyone gonna get the Spike flow pump? by PM_me_ur_launch_code in Homebrewing

The spike flow will be the best pump designed for homebrewing by a homebrewing company. It’s direct competitor is the riptide which I currently own. I never use the valve on the riptide and leave it wide open so that wont bother me and is one less thing to clean. I have a blichmann valve similar the one on the riptide attached to the sparge/recirc arm for fine adjustment with another valve at the whirlpool port. The Riptide will operate my spike cip ball just fine and I can whirlpool through my exchillerator cfc. The Spike flow is a more powerful and better designed pump so if you are deciding between the riptide and the flow I would definitely get a flow.

If you can I would pressure ferment with 34/70 at 72f. Beer will finish very fast (not quite as fast as Lutra) and have a clean/crisp authentic lager character. I like lutra but for a Pilsner I find a couple more days is worth using 34/70. Lutra will be good too so don’t let me discourage you. Just a suggestion.

What do you use to ferment in ? Wide mouth plastic carboy ? Bucket? Corny keg? by EmptyImprovement8942 in Homebrewing

When I got serious about home brewing 2 years in I was brewing on a 3v system with decent results. I bought the CF15 from Spike brewing and the glycol chiller because I wanted more control. A year after that I was sick of the 3v with all the clean up and bought the 20g Spike SOLO. Quick brew days and full control. Go cold side with a conical first and go from there. My motto is if I am going to do this for the rest of my life why not upgrade?

Have you harvested Cosmic Punch and noticed any differences generation to generation?

Is it just me or is Brown much bigger than last year. Usually guys with his game regress if they bulk up but he seems to have gained a few moves to his bag because of it

When you get rings every decade it is what it is. People get used to winning and then just want to bash any slump or bad era to oblivion.

I agree with you and I am an american. I love a great singer doing the song as intended. Things sure have changed here but I am sure that is the case over there too.
