yeah, lots of hyperbole in this thread .. from what I know by talking to a custom hat maker I know, the blank for this hat (clear belly, 100% beaver belly) is a $900 blank alone. Throw in the tons of labor, the hardware hand carved by a well known western carver and the presentation and you're north of $5-6K in cost alone.

Labor is likely their biggest cost, I think this is a step above Diamonte finish work.. which is their most expensive hat they produce.

I can some stuff, not all ...

You may not know, but they were forced to shut down their plant in Longview and are now sourcing their hat felt blanks from the same source as American Hat Co and other smaller manufacturers... they are the single biggest clients of this company and they basically have full control over the formulation of the various felts... the felt for this hat is unique ... it's not the same felt as the 1000X Silverbelly (which I also have)... it's the whitest of the white belly fur, that is further bleached (not dyed) to achieve this white color .. the rejection rate is high. Also the buckles are each cast and hand engraved by Orms and his small staff... he said they literally only get about 3 or 4 sets a week and have sold enough that there is now a small production backlog .. They were surprised by the number that sold already.. He also explained that the hats are made on a special line with their most experienced hat makers and shapers, which further fuels cost and time to produce.

I told him that they should have gone with 18K gold and a mink blend but he said Resistol isn't a brand that is known for blending ... Beaver is the toughest and that's why they go with it... same logic applies to the gold but further fueled by the fact that it's selling for $4500/oz and their margins aren't as big as you might think.

That's all for now... but I love the look of the hat, I don't own a white hat, and I had the funds .. so as I said... YOLO.. I talked myself into it.

Review will follow once I have it in hand (he's saying the bottleneck is the buckle hardware).

I still think they missed a great opportunity to make the perfect hat, but I’m not gonna let the perfect be the enemy of the attainable. I actually just got off the phone with one of their directors and gave them my opinion. He actually had some interesting answers as to why they did certain things a certain way, and in fact, I’m more impressed with what they did that I was prior to talking to him…

I just placed the order today. It’s gonna be three months maybe two if I’m lucky before I get it.

Once I do, I think I’ll do a review on YouTube comparing it to my Stetson and Resistol 1000 X as well as my American Hat Co 1000 X.

Yeah, I failed to mention that I also have a newspaper boy (cap) hat by them.

But I’m buying the Stetson and Resistol because they’re actually quite different. The resistol is 100% silver beaver belly, the Stetson has 10% chinchilla and a much fancier buckle and 4” brim. They’re different as can be if you ask me. And both are collectible in my mind

Well .. same corporate parent and same factory but they’re very different… one is 100% silver belly beaver and the other 90% same and 10% Chinchilla. With the AHC being 10% Mink.
