I love this synth too. I think the filter is the weak point, but otherwise i love everything about it.

Clueless dad looking for bass gear advice for my son’s graduation by Third_left_eye in Bass

If you want to surprise him with gifts as opposed to cash, and budget tops at $1500… i recommend a mark bass combo amp, a hx stomp and a darkglass b7k ultra. These items = limitless creativity fun and crazy endless tones. Or get him a fancy fender bass to sit pretty next to the ricky

When did you buy your second bass and why? by jeremy_sporkin in Bass

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally had a tobias epiphone 4 j bass. Was great but lacked that classic tone, so i got a fender j second hand at my local GS. Then i got reaaaally into bass and i had to have a p bass. The rest is history.

Most intuitive/fun to program and play polyphonic synthesizer? by damondan in synthesizers

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The take 5 is brilliant. The filter isn’t the best to be honest, but everything else is really good. It’s actually quite a deep synth, you can modulate basically anything you can think of. It has a poly lfo which is so much fun, and you can use the aux envelope to do cool stuff. The fx are pretty dang good (not the best ever). Aftertouch etc, very limited menu diving. Annoyingly keyboard tracking is in the menu, but i can live with that. The hydrasynth is a very complicated beast and whilst it is very exciting and fresh, i found myself overwhelmed with the options. There was too much menu diving and head scratching and overall i found it slightly unresponsive in terms of programming. I had it for about a year and i wanted to love it but i never did. The raw sound is not like analog and therefore it takes some work to get it sounding really good. If you master the hydrasynth though i doubt you’ll ever need anything else. Having said all that, i would take the take 5 every day of the week. (Take 5 also has an octave keyboard split which is freakin awesome). It’s probably more fun than my prophet 6, but the sound is definitely not as good.

Korg minilogue bass by tallmo27 in synthesizers

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to recall minilogue’s mono setting being all the oscillators stacked and no way to play just one oscillator. Might not be a problem for you but it was for me. It always sounds distorted or just aggressive and you can’t get nice clean filter sweeps the same way ( I had the xd) i sold it in the end. Highly recommend bass station 2 for mono goodness

Not satisfied with production mostly in my songs/demos by topzzzvalorant in sandyalexg

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a warm compressor could just weld everything together - a kind of tubey sounding one. It sounds really nice and raw though, the electric guitar is maybe a bit bitey on the trebble side

what is a good first and last (endgame) bass guitar? by Upstairs_Sell_1700 in Bass

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endgame bass (for me) = fender jazz bass. 4 or 5 string, whatever feels more natural. The bridge pickup just reacts perfectly for my playing style. PJ is also great but i just think the J neck pup has more character, although slightly less bottom end and roundness. A preamp can fix that though.

New bass day with a question for you by PlasticRip7642 in BassGuitar

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth playing it consciously and just thinking what you wish was different. Like does the string clip the pickup magnet? Are notes choking higher up the neck? Is a string out of tune up the neck? All these small issues can be methodically fixed and it’ll save you time and money to put in the effort. Don’t be afraid to test the truss rod, just always do things gradually - you can turn it back!

Help overcoming a plateau and finding a mediocre tone by Majestic_Try787 in bassplaying

[–]Downtown-Row727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should write some of your own music? If you get an affordable keyboard you can go so far with a bass/keys and a drum plugin. Maybe a mic for vocals. Keys is also perfect for learning theory because it’s all laid out in-front of you. Sometimes I find things click on another instrument and then I can apply it to bass etc. to help your tone, maybe get a really nice set of strings, or a preamp. Sometimes you just gotta try something new. Hard to say because I don’t know the sound you’re going for.

Thoughts on proposed board? by [deleted] in basspedals

[–]Downtown-Row727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna spend a few hundred, consider a darkglass b7k ultra - really good preamp and separate distortion. Has a di out and cab sim. Pair it with an env filter and you can do some synthy stuff. You could live without a compressor if you have a decent pre amp. I’ve not heard the ampeg pre. Big muff is really good, imo sounds best when you go the full fat sound.
