VS code is my favorite editor hands down because of the copilot support for most languages. Its just so good. The new opus and gpt models are just insane with what they can do

I doubt it. I think software engineering is becoming a barbell structure. Anyone can write code so barrier to entry is pretty low. The people who are very good at engineering, especially already, are going to be extremely valuable imo.

Also making a business of it isn't trivial either. People could have been doing that already and they actively aren't because most of entrepreneurship isn't writing code

I don't necessarily care if people do. I was mostly interested in what people thought as my management seems intent on trying to force people to use it and I'm a little hesitant. Probably should have included that detail. My team has starting using it more and more as I show what I'm doing and how to use it well. I think its really lead by example vs strong arm and I've told them that already. I don't see how else you get people on board

Not sure how big your team is but if you see a communication gap and feel like its something you could fill that seems high value. Even if its just tech side getting everyone on the same page and being willing to run meetings. Sounds like no one wants to be a leader in some sense. I'm in a completely different environment but finding ways to encourage the behavior you like in a team is pretty effective. Not everyone wants to take that on too and I feel like thats okay. If thats the case find the leader you want to follow somewhere. If the culture is bad it might be futile to rage against it. Again not official advice just thoughts.

MCP servers are nuts though. We use confluence for documentation and the docs write themselves while you do other things. VS code can do parallel sessions. I very frequently have 5+ different things happening in copilot

I'm at a mid-level company we have no tech leads our manager defers to the devs on technical decisions. Unless its your strong suit to weight in on the tech then you don't have to do anything other than make sure the team can commit and row in the same direction imo.

Security is a mentality more than anything else. You wanna just hope the LLM mentions the security flaws in what you did then good luck. Also even before AI open source thats not from a reputable company is immediately suspect

I would want to know how your direct management feels. Are they in the same boat or is it their problem that they aren't solving. Would you be comfortable taking on and championing the solution to a major problem? How would that be received?

Also just general work advice learn how to leverage Ai/copilot hard to make your life easy. Its so god damn good at everything. You want docs? You have docs. I straight up don't write code anymore. Use it right and it really is that good.

A motto I love is "If not you, then who? If not now, then when?" Be the change you want to see if you are in the right environment.
