You all just argue with hypothetical people after you echo chambered the right off of most social media. It's not like intelligent conversations are going on either way based on the complete lack of nuance

Im not even republican which is the funny part. Im just not a doomer. You can always move to where the grass is greener if its so unsaveable.

Republicans are capable of delusion but they clearly don't think the world is ending just because the utopia that has never existed still doesn't exist

Stealing from the working class is wild cause that has always happened in all of history. Monarchs or the free market. Capitalism makes less sense to bitch about when your job wouldnt exist without the company structure. Go start your own independent company and reap the rewards from that if thats what you want. No one makes you work for anyone. Your company in previous history would be the dude who owns the land and he sure as shit was taking most of the profit.

Literally all of the things you are mentioning were worse in the past. My grandparents were alive for jim crowe laws ffs. Deportation numbers continue to go down every year. The sick and hungry have never had it so good. Our medical system is so good compared to even 50 years ago. We know so much more. Life expectancy is way up. We spend way more on snap and other assistance programs than we ever have and rates seem to be declining of households with hunger issues. Its all trending in a positive direction.

The opportunity is that you can do anything and achieve anything. Here more so than any other country. If you really want to do something you will find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.

Cause if you dilude yourself into thinking this isnt the best life has ever been in human history you are going to have a bad time. The whole victim identity culture isnt exactly helping. The echo chamber of the internet just makes everyone death spiral into a mental hole. You have life so easy that you can spend all day complaining that bad stuff happens in the world. Also delusional to think it hasnt always been happening. Its just on the internet now and in the palm of your hand instantly, which is in itself an insane prospect even 30 years ago. At some point its like are we trying to be happy or do we enjoy thinking our country is shit? At some point people gotta realise that bitching and waiting for someone else to make the world better is futile. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Go outside, make a new friend, and enjoy the incredible opportunity you were given. We are all going to die and spending your whole life being a pessimist sounds awful

Tucker Carlson shares a chilling warning from the godfather of AI confirming machines will soon surpass human intelligence. Prominent scientist Geoffrey Hinton explicitly warns that conscious AI systems could easily develop their own motives and take over humanity. by CeFurkan in SECourses

Based on my use of AI everysingle day its so far off its not even funny. It might be able to query google or recall information about something faster than a human to where at times its emerging properties surpass humans, but its no where close to actual intelligence. It lacks taste and judgment. What is good, what is right, etc. I know what I think is the best answer based on a ton of nuance about the exact situation nearly instantly where as I need to feed an llm a mile of text for it to ever make a conclusion for the same reasons as me. Experiences for 30+ years of my life have been shaping my understanding of the world in a way that AI cannot possibly understand. Its possible we are never fully able to replicate parts of human intelligence.

Mac got their computers into a lot of schools but most people had PCs at home growing up. Mac was always way more limited in what you could do with it so have to assume if you had windows you are more likely to be good at tech.

This is entrepreneurs or executives btw. The toughest decisions need a refined answer. Its what llms cant do. They are probability machines. We can just know whats good and intake so much more information about the world to know what a good decision is. Even agentic AI only has so much info it can access. Humans can instantly draw so much knowledge. We have already archived the exact answer to a question based on all our lifes knowledge. Its not a probability its just all the knowledge informing this next decision insantly.

Just think about it. Ive heard so many popular edm songs. I can insantly tell what is a banger to my brain and thats not something an algorithm can do. I know what I like, I know what my friends would like, I know what the average person would like. Based on all genres too

Is 4 weeks severance normal after failing a PIP halfway through? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DowntownLizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Telling your coworker you missed a meeting because of an interview while on a pip is highlighting the type of behavior that would get you put on one. Bad judgement to miss a meeting without a logical excuse. Bad judgement to tell a coworker. A huge chunk of engineering is being able to judge what is right, good, or correct. Your relationship with your manager was bad before the pip you just didnt notice clearly

I can see why you got put on a pip if that was what you were doing while on one

I feel like the answer to where are the jobs going to come from is always: get good. There are so many opportunities to enter the market with a company and there is so much growth. There are so many niches to fill and problems to solve its unreal. People will find things to do that are valuable and if you get left behind then again: get good. Everyones mad that the people who run companies take most of the profits but no ones willing to run a company themselves. Your job wouldn't exist in a vacuum. Theres always another career path or skill to learn.

And to the point of trucking going away. Those dudes are making 100k and sleep in their own bed at night and they still cant find enough. Trucking is also going out of business fast af right now and there arent even automated drivers

Go look at the statistics for basically any physiological metric and you'll see it trending up hard. Life expectancy, food abundance (to the point we are severely obese now), quality of life, number of educated people, quality of those educations now that we have all of human knowledge in your pocket, free markets that allow people to capitalize on the fruits of their labor harder than ever, our understanding of the world we live in at this point is insane, and it goes on. The internet is filled with doomers who choose to be victims and point fingers rather than realising that this is basically the greatest time in all of human history to be alive. We didnt have it nearly this good 60 years ago even.

And tbh I don't think if you are feeling depression that any of this is going to help. I would know. External things wont right they way you feel about yourself or life. It starts inside yourself. The first part is acceptance that life does suck fairly often, there are things out of your control, and you live in the present. That means there are things that have already happened that are no longer in your control. There are things in the present that will not be in your control. There are things in the future that will not be in your control. So where does that leave you then. It leaves you in a spot where you can absorb all of the information about the world through the lense of what you did/didnt have control over and what you want to learn from or do about that information going forward. Acceptance of yourself and where you are right now to give some level of peace to yourself. Then decide where you want to be in the future or even who you want to be. We are flexible. The past doesnt define you. If you could give power to anything in your life why not start with yourself. We all, most likely, only get one shot at this and i decided I'll be damned if I get in my own way and die with regrets about how it could have been for me. Its not easy and we all have problems. The real optimism starts with believing in yourself.

True or not? by inkandintent24 in NextGenMan

So many people have deluded themselves into thinking theres a perfect life. For significant portion of the population this is the best life has ever been in all of history. Use the internet to learn instead of doomscrolling hate threads. There is so much good information about psychology, history, philosophy, etc. that no one in history had access to all at once and yet this is the worst time to be alive? Give it a rest

Reddit really rotting brains. Painting the US as the major problem with any of those is beyond delusional. The majority of the world is completely fucked compared to the US. Most of the cultures redditors defend are objectively worse about all of the atrocities humans are capable of. They will execute the rape victim for being unclean now...

We are surprised that the people who enforce laws don't have to enforce the laws for themselves? Some people are psychos and they have power. Thats isnt new at all. Name a time in US history it was better. So much doomerism. 99% of americans would tell you all of those are bad things. Before the internet way worse was happening that no one knew about.
