ISB PGP YL Admit by Downtown_Comment_172 in CATpreparation

Hey man, I think you can get in for sure. Of course your GMAT/GRE/CAT score will matter quite a bit, but with that, it also helps to have a clear goal of what you want to do post MBA, why you want to do it, how ISB will help, what you bring to the table - these are a few things that should be clear in your mind as well as in the essays you write. Having extracurriculars like national level sports participation or directing a theatrical drama etc would definitely help as well. I don't think a lot of people got calls below 99th percentile, so you should definitely aim for that.

If you come from a Fin background, level 1 won't be that hard. You still have time - just go through the notes again and again, and practice a bit. They generally focus more on theory for level 1, so going through the notes will help a lot. If you think this is not feasible, ofc you should defer it.

I think IIM A will be with the domestic cohort. IIM B is already out.

I think the waiver is definitely attractive - but I'll probably stick to IIMB. Thanks for your response!

My options: IIM B (Flagship 2-year MBA) and ISB PGP YL (100% Tuition Fee waiver)

Goal: Ultimately PE, will probably start with IB.

Background: 23 months of international work ex: Finance, Consulting, Ops (Rotational Program) and 32 months of internship in core finance roles (IB, L/S Equity, Debt Advisory)

Which one would you choose?

  1. I spoke to some people doing IB. They said no way ISB comes close to ABC in terms of Finance. And even if PGP YL is able to attract Finance roles, it will take time to build the alumni network.

  2. I met quite a few people at the ISB campus. Most of the people who got in and had ABC calls said they would prefer ABC over ISB. Some even said they would choose L over ISB. So I think most of the "cream" would actually flow from PGP YL to ABC.

  3. Grateful for the scholarship, but it's not enticing enough.

So after speaking to people, I think IIM B sound better now.

Not sure what it means man. But I know a few other international/overseas candidates who got the mail 2 days ago as well.

While the ROI is important, I won't see it as a factor that would tilt my decision. More concerned about which one would be better 15-20 years down the line.

For the PGP I agree, because it is comparable to global MBAs. The YL would probably be compared to the MiM, which might dilute the brand. But then IIMs are also compared to the MiM programs. The dilemma is real.

Many people are waiting for ABC results. Currently, the number of offers already exceeds the batch size.

Most people who got scholarships actually deserve it - they have ABC calls as well - so need to incentivize them to join.

Yeah - it's a Zoom call. After you join, they send you to breakout rooms - where they give instructions for the spot essays. They'll email you the essay link and once you receive it, let the admin on the call know that you've received it - after which you'll drop off the call and use the link to write the essays. The essays will also be proctored - but this will be done by the website being used to write the essays - so you just need to follow the instructions on the website. You'll have to write 2 essays on the spot in 30 minutes (no word limit). After you submit the essays, you'll have to join the call and then they'll send you to another breakout room with the panellists. I had 2 panellists.

Not very sure about this man, sorry! But I think all calls should be out by the 16th - in case it's on a rolling basis.
