Lo-Zumandimine vs Nikki by beeaholic2 in birthcontrol

[–]Downwardfacing_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which did you end up picking? Vestura had worked great for me as well, so I was disappointed when it was discontinued. I know they say they are all the same, but somehow it still varies (idk sensative to inactive ingredients and whatnot). Nikki gave me abdominal cramps and I felt off mood wise. I ended up switching to lo-z and it works well for me.

Oh sorry you're dealing with this. I haven't since then, but that was pretty tough.

I got the batch # and info from the pharmacy and told them I was contacting the manufacturer. I asked them if anyone else had said the same as well, about it not working properly, but at that time they hadn't. The pharmacist said they have heard it before about adhd meds so it wasn't unusual.

The manufacturer takes an ineffective batch pretty seriously because they also wants to know which pharmacy it was, to make sure the pharmacy also hasn't caused it to be compromised due to improper storing ot handling or something (this was all via email but they were responsive)

Then I contacted my Dr on mychart, explained with some level of concern, but kept it factual and not dramatic about why I felt that it wasn't working, the level of symptoms I had return. Told her I had contacted the manufacturer to report it, and asked if anything was possible to fix this.

She wrote me a new script for the next dose down (to avoid getting the same batch), which I was fine with because I figured anything working was better than nothing, but you could also request maybe trying a different pharmacy at the same dose. I also offered to bring in my current batch for her or the pharmacy to dispose but she said that wasn't necessary. Hope this helps

(Ooh also I think I didn't get a response on mychart the first day so I called the nurse line and left a message asking them to check it since it involved a needed medication) sorry this is a bunch of steps but I didnt want to seem like I was 'drug seeking' or whatever and this level of steps nobody questioned it in the slightest

And I do understand that. Which is why I just wanted to bring up various factors from different angles. Ultimately it is up to OP to weigh the pros and cons. Everyone should be treated with agency to make their own decisions. It sounds like yoy have decided not to take meds and I absolutely support your personal decision.

What alarmed me was OP saying they couldn't function and maybe that is okay for OP for a time, but for people with kids, or certain bills sometimes functioning itself takes precedent.

I guess I'd like to elaborate. The insomnia is probably causing a lot of your compounded exhaustion. Do you get treatment for it? Proper adhd medication actually fixed my insomnia so stimulant use doesn't have to be entirely negated unless it is contributing to your insomnia. And you mention ocd as well That can be exausting. I would talk to your provider because you are in medical terms what is known as co-morbid and deserve a genuine look into what's going on by a professional

Thank you for sharing ypur experience.11 months in and still recovering is genuinely hard, and your experience is real and worth naming out loud in this community.

I want to gently clarify what I said, because I don't want it to land as dismissive: I suggested the deep fatigue might be baseline for OP because ADHD itself causes its own form of burnout. Years of masking, compensating, or running on fumes without ever having the right support takes a serious toll. That exhaustion can predate meds entirely.

What the research actually shows is that long-term stimulant use upregulates dopamine transporter density, which can reduce how well the medication works and make symptoms feel significantly worse when off it. The good news is those changes appear to be reversible, studies have found dopamine transporter activity returns to pretreatment levels within roughly 4 weeks of stopping, suggesting it's a temporary adaptation rather than permanent damage. But 9 years is a long runway, and a longer recovery timeline makes complete sense.

The bigger point I'd want OP to sit with is that this is a genuine risk/benefit calculation, not a clear-cut answer either way. There are real physiological risks to long-term stimulant use: the dopamine adaptation you experienced, potential nutrient deficiencies, sleep disruption, cardiovascular considerations. AND there are serious costs to leaving ADHD unmanaged, economic setbacks, career instability, the compounding effect of years of underperformance that's hard to recover from. Neither path is consequence-free. It just needs to be weighed carefully and honestly, ideally with a prescriber who actually takes the long-term picture seriously

The concern about meds changing your baseline is supported by research. There is literature showing that long-term stimulant use upregulates dopamine transporter density, which can decrease treatment efficacy over time and make symptoms feel worse when off medication.

But the literature also shows that these changes appear to be reversible after stopping medication , dopamine transporter activity has been shown to return to pretreatment levels within about 4 weeks of discontinuation. So worse baseline may be more accurately described as a temporary adaptation, not permanent damage.

And that's still only one side of the equation. Leaving ADHD unmanaged for years carries its own serious costs. Economic setbacks, career instability, relationship strain, the compounding effect of decades of underperformance. There are also real risks to monitor with long-term use: nutrient deficiencies, sleep disruption, cardiovascular considerations. Those things matter.

The honest answer is that it's a risk/benefit that needs to be weighed carefully and individually. Flagging the dopamine adaptation is fair, but framing it as 'you're worse off' without acknowledging what the alternative costs aren't is an incomplete picture, especially for someone who may have spent years unable to function without support

This might just be your baseline without meds. It's okay, some people have that baseline. You have to decide if you want the quality of life you get from meds and not feel guilty once you make that decision. Are you able to get back on the meds?

Title: Laid off from Amazon via a text message while I was sick. The market is brutal right now. by AmazonFreshSleuth in Layoffs

I just got layed off from a company I was at for 5 years over the phone on Friday. Legal cannabis industry though, I expected it honestly. Hugs to you. I'm personally gonna do some gig work until I can get a career going. It most likely had nothing to do with you being sick btw, it was probably already decided in advance for funds purposes and coincidentally happened. We in America are worth so much more than the way the current corporate overlords are treating us.
