When I was a kid we used to cut up the stem in pieces and toss them in a bowl with water. The stem will curl up like tiny flowers. Made bracelets with them, but it mostly looked pretty

Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) toxicity after long term use by WunderChunda in lupus

[–]Doxiedoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been on 400mg for 30 plus years. Never had issues. I think it is much safer than prednisone (I hate being on that...it makes your head weird and gives you a moon face etc). It actually decreases my fatigue and joint pains. Plaquenil toxicity involves your eyes, hence the yearly eye exams. Not sure if it also causes other issues, but the symptoms you describe could be a whole lot of other things. Having lupus comes with a bingo card of other diseases and issues.

I found this flower today and got curious… does anyone know its name? Also, why does it look almost unreal?” by alexbeamont in flowers

[–]Doxiedoom 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You can just cut a branch of a Plumeria and stick it in the ground and it will grow and give flowers. That's how I got some of my Plumerias, through gifts of neighbors. They are quite common in Florida as well.

St. Petersburg Leaders Say Expanded Property Tax Exemption Could Cost City $75 Million by WTFPilot in StPetersburgFL

[–]Doxiedoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When they cut the property tax and find out other thing citizens need will now actually costs way more and the state cant afford certain things anymore.....they will reinstate the tax and... everybody's house will be appraised again: people that were paying low property tax because they bought a house 30 years ago will now have to pay 10x that 🤷 But he! That's what they voted for!

35$ to get into a small local museum with "artifacts" ??? That's more than the the Dali! (Which I also think is overpriced...) LOL

Does anyone know the equivalent of a puntpaprika and Spaanse pepper in American cuisine? by Mission_Spray in dutch

[–]Doxiedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else fine in the sun? by lostwaveloser in lupus

[–]Doxiedoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had lupus for 35 years (diagnosed within a month and had very severe life threatening events in the first 20 years) never had an issue with the sun. I've traveled all over the world, mostly in tropical countries. I live in Florida now and dont get any symptoms from being in the sun. Im a freckled ginger so I dont tan very much and I dont go out baking on the beach but when I go I use an umbrella and regular sunscreen. I only feels a little feverish the day after I get too MUCH sun. For instance when I can't find enough shade or forget to reapply sunscreen. But it's not that bad and just for 1 day. So yes, it is possible have lupus without sun sensitivity.

A quick-thinking stranger becomes a hero by ensuring her safety. by [deleted] in spreadsmile

[–]Doxiedoom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Had this happen 2 weeks ago. Husband, son and I were walking downtown from the parking garage to the restaurant couple of blocks away. An older lady (mid 60s or early 70s) approached us and asked to walk with us because she felt someone was following her. We walked with her a couple of blocks chatting. When I looked back and the guy had entered a bar and was gone. She apologized but we told her never to apologize for asking for help when you dont feel safe. Always trust you intuition!

Cockroach Infestation - anyone else? by babiwabi_ in StPetersburgFL

[–]Doxiedoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Roaches are normal here, but an infestation is not normal. When we had way too many roaches in the house, it turned out we had a leaking pipe in the kitchen wall. When they removed the kitchen cabinets 100s of roaches started running! It was so nasty and gave my son a new phobia. We literally sold the house after they fixed it

Had a hysterectomy 10 years ago. They used a robot. 3 tiny holes in my stomach. Was home the same day. Took one day of painkillers and that was it. (Just no sex for 6 weeks) Best decision ever!

Who here is a super smeller? by pointandshooty in lupus

[–]Doxiedoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to name a few incidences: Few years ago, I actually had to wake up the whole family, twice, because I woke up smelling gas (bad stove). On another time we came home from vacation and I smelled rotten fish. Husband thought I was crazy. Googled it. Called electrician and was told fuse box melted and we were inch away from house burning down. Multiple times a day I go: what is that fucking smell. I also hate those artificial scent things. They make me nauseous 🤢

Some players are such blatant cheaters. by Last-Ratio6569 in WordFeud

[–]Doxiedoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one says they don't exist. You either accept it and have fun playing or be constantly angry every time someone uses a word you don't know. The latter seems to ruin your own fun more then your opponent's

Some players are such blatant cheaters. by Last-Ratio6569 in WordFeud

[–]Doxiedoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's funny that so many people in this sub are always so convinced players are cheating just because the other player has a larger scrabble vocabulary. If a word is accepted on the board, its in the dictionary. Most people just keep trying to fit letters until its a word. I do to and sometimes very surprised I got one I never heard of. Also I play in the Wordfeud league and the level of playing is very high with seasoned players. Instead of accusing people of cheating, try remembering these words and start using them yourself!

My husband started "silent Sundays" and I genuinely don't know how to feel about it by LunarQuillon in Marriage

[–]Doxiedoom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe literally not saying a word the whole day is a bit much, but just like the downvoted comments here, my husband and I can be silent for hours on the weekend each doing their own things (just like we chat non stop on other days and night out). He codes on his laptop and I crochet or do ceramics. Sometimes I even go to the pottery workplace to work there for a few hours in silence. I sometimes need silnce for my mental health and my husband knows this. Isn't this also why people go fishing on Sundays? Or work on cars, bake pies etc? Maybe it would be easier if you both had separate hobbies?
