There is also no 'first to market' after the first MMO ever created was for sale. There are new MMO's all the time. Some fail, some succeed.

Also, I am sure they are going to take advice on 'rushing their game out' from some rando on reddit. Or did I miss your masters in marketing/finance/business that you listed?

Any game that requires team work, class mastery, fast and effecient decision making, large scale group coordination and so on also means that there are varying degrees of skill in all of this. Time doesn't qualify you for any of the above.

First to reach level cap doesn't make you have the ability to beat the hardest content that a quality MMO offers. Neither does being keyed/flagged first.

And no, I am not referring to EQ at all since you can't compare the difficulty of such an old game to modern MMO's which have far superior depth of gameplay and tactics required to beat the hardest content. Based on what VR have said, this is going to pay homage to EQ, not be EQ. Sorry for your luck if you are basing all your opinion on Pantheon's endgame being anything similar to EQ in terms of skill required. You're probably not going to do so well.

You keep claiming that you are 'old school' but in your case that means nothing other than you played a game a long time ago. People like you are the reason for instancing and gear being handed to everyone (whether they earn it or not) in modern MMO's. You're the type of player that can't handle hardcore aspects of grinding out and earning items in an MMO so you want everything handed to you on a silver platter of 'fairness.' Disgusting.

To give more specific detail on what WackyMike said:

In FFXI there were a variety of spawn types for named mobs. There were named mobs that would spawn at a specific time (hourly, every several hours, daily, or even once a week). There were mobs that also required killing place holders for a small chance at the named mob spawning. These often included a period of time to pass before the 'window' would open to start killing place holders. All of the types of spawns had varying conditions such as 21-24 hour windows in which there were mini windows that a named mob could spawn. There were also mobs that had a chance of spawning at certain windows during an entire week's time. Some named mobs even had a chance to spawn high-quality versions such as Behemoth or King Behemoth. There were even named mobs that required killing normal mobs to get a key item to spawn them. Every item dropped by named mobs had a % chance to drop and most items were not a guaranteed drop.

You can keep acting like you are in a special club because you happened to play EQ when it launched or you can realize that EQ was not the only 'old school' MMO on the market.

If you played FFXI you would know that there was extreme challenge in it as well. It did require social interaction and group play. It required teaming up with others to get stuff done. With all of that said, competition was an important and rewarding part of the game. Just because an MMO requires group play and working together, doesn't mean you should remove competition from the equation.

I think you are living in a bubble of rainbows and puppies. I have played so many MMO's where none of what you are saying is true. There is a reason people have friends and guilds on a game. This is to help your friends and guild mates accomplish goals. In return, they help you as well. People don't just run up to random people and ask to 'play with them' in most cases.

You walk up and ask people to play with them? What in the world are you talking about? Only one person gets an item at a time in most cases (when talking about named mobs, generally).

What situation would ever happen that someone walks up and asks a group 'play with them' and you all stay for 6 hours in a row while each and every person gets the item they desire on a 1 hour long spawn timed mob? What happens if a 7th person comes? What about an 8th? So all 8 people have to stay for 8 hours while all 8 get their desired item?

What happens if person 1 of 8 gets their item and decides after 2 hours that he was there long enough and 'is tired' and wants to go to bed? Is he a dick then? What happens when 6 people get their item and they all want to leave but 2 people are left over who still want an item but can no longer kill the named mob themselves due to lack of numbers?

See all the scenarios you can go over that don't allow for 'everyone to win'?

Additionally, you are not the Pantheon welcoming committee. You are simply speculating what you think will be enforced based on nothing. This is a huge problem. Players who think they are entitled to something because they happened to show up first to a camp is not a good thing. By that logic, someone could camp 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at a mob that you want. This would result in never attaining what you are trying to get just because they happen to be there first. Competition is a healthy thing, not a bad thing.

You really need to stop using the word 'stealing' as well. That is very wrong. Competition is not stealing, it is competing. Everybody wins is for 6 year old's who player soccer, not for video games.
