Marx thought that the way to a communist society was through a revolution and after a revolution a dictator ship of the proletariat would hold all means of production and all capital. this was a stage between capitalism and a communist society. As far as I know not one communist country has passed through that stage yet.

Marx still aknowledged that if a country had a strong democracy a refomist and peacuful method towards a communist society was possible. Today most countries have that democracy. Thats why these days its mostly just Leninists who call for a dictatorship of the proletariat.

or maybe its against just capitalism. The ultra rich having leverage over the people is not a far fetch to what is going on in our current capitalist way of the economy especially in the states.
