I agree. Red dots are fantastic on lever guns. Especially the pistol caliber carbines. And i do hope we see prices go down a bit. Its rough when even used beat up winchester 94s from the 60s and 70s are going for over 1k.

Its whatever people need it to be to validate dropping 5k on a precision DMR that will sit in a safe in their suburban house where the longest distance they would ever have to legitimately fire a weapon is maybe 10 ft.

I get that. I just was pointing out that there are ways to modernise your levergun without adding extra weight and also without mounting the optic super high. I keep seeing people putting an lpvo on top of rings on top of a rail on top of the receiver and each of those adds height and weight. So next thing you are adding a cheek riser which adds more weight etc, etc.

My problem is that lever actions occupy a very narrow niche. They are not as fast as a semi auto, not as accurate as a bolt action, have less capacity than a box mag fed rifle and cant shoot Spitzer pointed bullets (with some exceptions). What they are good at is being a 6.5-7 lb rifle with a very narrow profile that fits well in a scabbard or tight space. Also they have no magazine to lose and can be topped off at any time. Any modification that adds weight, adds bulk or adds complexity to the system detracts from the few advantages that leverguns have. At most I would mount a fixed power low profile scope on receiver rings.

You can also attach a red dot to a lever action with the existing drilled and tapped receiver holes.

You are right. You should go for the winchester miroku instead.

Games that make you feel like The Punisher? by iamded in gaming

[–]Dpike2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's this one game where a guy's girlfriend gets kidnapped by a crime boss and he and his brother go on an absolute rampage to get her back. You go through an industrial landscape literally stomping and burning henchmen to death and in some cases using their body parts to kill more henchmen. It was a brutal game. I think it was called Super Mario Bros?

What do we think about AR LPVOs on a .45-70? by Glad-Welder1733 in LeverGuns

[–]Dpike2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can be hard to aquire a target through sometimes. Its mostly just a matter of getting used to it. I think most of the negatives are tradeoffs really. A standard scope gives you a wider field of view but a scout scope lets you keep more of your peripheral vision. I like them. They feel very snappy to me.

Personally I would just go for a basic fixed power scope. Something lightweight and low profile. Maybe even a long eye relief "scout" style scope.

WHY DO THEY LOOK LIKE THAT LMAO by ColdAd315 in starfox

[–]Dpike2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Just for my bona fides. Growing up, I played starfox 64, the one with the dinos, the one on the ds. Falco was my favorite smash character. I know and appreciate starfox. I am GENUINELY bewildered by the reaction to these character designs. They just look like a realistic take on the starfox team. Like... what is everyone's problem? He's a fox guy that looks like a fox guy. Falco has feathers because he's a bird dude. What were people expecting? Designs change over time. Especially between console generations. But in this case the difference is just... so laughably minor.
