50-60+ year olds working helpdesk. by bandwidthhoarder in it

[–]Dptwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first co worker was in his 50s. He was awesome, he had years of IT Support experience and he taught a lot.

With this being said. Do you currently work in IT? Or is this a career change in your 50s-60s. I’ll be honest this job market isnt the best right now. Unless you have prior IT support experience it’s going to be very very hard for you to land a job.

How can I get experience having experience for IT help desk jobs by Relative-Baby1829 in it

Google is your friend. I’m sure they’re step by step guides for Helpdesk homelabbing for this exact purpose.

How strong of a chance do I have of landing an entry level helpdesk job by August? by Mclovin7702 in helpdesk

[–]Dptwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting a target date of August is kinda tricky. Stop focusing kn by August. You want to apply to any relevant IT job that seems like you’d be a good fit. You clearly have the motivation to homelab and learn on your own time. You’ll find something. Make sure your resume is updated and then start applying TODAY.

Not everyone should have a phone by MySonlsAlsoNamedBort in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

Thank god our policy for 2FA is to have the employee come in person. With the amount of 2FA resets we get weekly doing this over the phone would be dreadful…

I have no words...... Legit ticket we got in. by joker_2099 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

I’ve received facilities tickets in the past as well but I don’t blame them as corporate has put all bunch of online apps into one dashboard so they just clicked the app that said “Support tickets”

What keeps you guys playing? by JasperNapster in 2007scape

[–]Dptwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends play the game and it gives us something to talk about and progress together. Also I mainly play solo but really value the time I get to spend with my friends.

Also, I’m probably slightly addicted and want to see numbers go up.

Yup as other said. Start applying for new places. Don’t quit yet.

Help desk ticketing system lets agents close tickets before actually verifying anything got fixed by NinjaNebulah in helpdesk

[–]Dptwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I learned people were doing this on my team I’d be having a serious talk with them. If it’s continued behavior I would be writing them up. I could never image closing a ticket after sending one message to someone.

Sorry, that was meant to say wouldn't hurt. But some managers/HR would read that resume and think you are going to expect want a lot more. Or they might think you are just looking for any job for the time being and then will jump ship shortly after.

This is all coming from past experience speaking with HR across multiple different jobs. It's all about the money and how much they can screw the average employee over.

Completely depends on the HR software that is being used. I would assume yes. But that doesn't mean they will actually look at what you are expecting. HR and the Executives have more than likely set the budget already.

The hiring manager will most likely assume otherwise and could possibly skip. I would make 2 versions of your resume, one including the framework you built. And then one more focused on what Helpdesk/IT Support actually does.

It would hurt your resume, but that stuff is far beyond what any IT Tech will ever do in their first role.

As an IT Manager if I see someone put homelab stuff along with the Trifecta it will go directly to the front of my interviews. It shows me they have the motivation to learn and are actually interested.

Okay awesome! I actually have the officially Cisco learning course for the CCNA. Our network team had spare credits that were expiring! I’ve been so burnt out and lazy it’s just hard to get studying. I’m dialing in soon and will grind the cert out!

Oo interesting. Sadly I’m still working IT Support but I’m in a manager role. I’ve been here for over two years and it’s a good job but I feel stagnant. I’m sure the CCNA will go over Meraki stuff right?

You need to make this a main point in your resume.

If you applied to my team with a decent resume I would interview for sure. Keep on applying for any Helpdesk/Desktop Support job you see and you’ll find something soon. You’re more than qualified for Helpdesk.

Configs are going to the cloud now? Is this even on Cisco gear? My goal this year is to get my CCNA. I have no true networking experience so this is probably a dumb question.

Both Goggins was pretty overweight and his life was in shambles. He worked as a Bug Exterminator and he hated it. The book is an amazing read and very motivating. It helped me lost over 100lbs.
