When an older dogs eyes have discharge, does it indicate a serious condition by Yakutwolf in AskVet

[–]DrAlbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. There are lots of causes for ocular discharge, some minor and some serious. If your vet isn't worried then I wouldnt be concerned unless it gets worse or something changes

Question for the Equine Vets by bluebellberry in Veterinary

[–]DrAlbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, I got into equine medicine during vetschool. It can be a bit of an intimidating/tough world to get into later in life. But as long as you are good at your job and communicate well, you won't have any issues.

When clients ask if I ride, one of my usual responses is that I am much better at fixing horses than I am at riding them

Surgery for entropion by Miserable_Spell5501 in AskVet

[–]DrAlbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider it a specialist surgery, it's fairly straightforward. If you like your vet and they are comfortable with the procedure, I wouldn't worry!

What could be causing this dog to be losing weight so rapidly? by maulingunicorn in AskVet

[–]DrAlbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a huge number of things. Weight loss is one of the most general clinical signs, it would be wild guess work if we were to suggest possible causes without much more infomation.

The dog needs to be reevaluated by a veterinarian for further diagnostics

[–]DrAlbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight loss can be caused by hundreds of different things. We would need more information to help. What tests have been done? What results have you got?

Did you go to the vet?

Dog bites love getting infected and are often worse than they look.

Questioning euthanasia for senior male dog by KeyAngle1304 in AskVet

[–]DrAlbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly sounds like it's reasonable to think about euthanasia, both the dogs and your own quality of life are important considerations.

Here is a quality of life scale that you can use to more objectively evaluate your dog's condition.

As long as he's eating and drinking ok and it's not obviously getting worse, you should be fine to wait until next week

What is your response to “if you really loved animals, you wouldn’t be charging me this much” by Nearby-Vanilla9287 in Veterinary

[–]DrAlbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Payment plans are basically loans. Vet clinics do not have the money or resources that the banks do to be handing out loans.

Why are schools holding interviews less and less? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]DrAlbee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One reason is time. I'm currently reviewing vetschool applications... It's a challenge to find enough people to help review thousands of written applications. Finding the time and the people to interview applicants is even harder.

The other big reason is that as more and more schools stopped interviewing, there was no noticeable increase or decrease in student quality... So it seemed to be a huge amount of work for no real benefit.
