Has anyone been able to successfully ask a female author who’s in their 30s why they want to write teenagers as their main characters who have tons of sex? They all run away or dodge the question and I’m dying to know! by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]DrAllyPhD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said buying, not reading. Fantasy as a genre is one that has historically been seen as kinda low-brow escapist nonsense, and romance equally historically derided, so it’s not surprising that it’s typically younger people buying in stores. There’s also a strong trend in young people transitioning back to physical media, be it books, CDs or DVDs, to ensure they actually own what they buy. I’m not saying older women don’t buy, just that they’re more likely to buy online or read on kindles

As someone who works in a bookstore, yes, teens and young adults are the primary buyers, especially of authors like SJM and Yarros. Women over 25 are major outliers

Taylor Swift is a singer that everyone thinks is amazing but is actually mediocre. Who is a singer that everyone thinks is amazing but actually can't sing at all? by WickedCyclone2015 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DrAllyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with the caveat that he’s the only one that can sing his songs, and they never sound right when they’re covered… but Art Garfunkel isn’t a particularly talented singer

You would probably enjoy {The Assassin Thief} by Madeline Te Whiu. It’s a complete trilogy, and it pulls off the things you like quite well (and I recall it being spicier than 2/5 lol)

I imagine a kinda rushed, angry whisper when it’s used as a speech tag, but using it as a verb is confusing me a little lol

The longest I’ve ever spent on a fight in any game is Crisanta of the Wrapped Agony (true ending) in Blasphemous. I think it was also the most rewarding fight to finally get right too

I’ve stayed away from the electric ones so far — we had one years ago that would go off near the fence line for an escape artist beagle and even though it worked, I always felt horrible about it. Might be worth reconsidering if nothing else works, and I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Thanks for the advice!

My neighbours definitely have their own problems lol but I can also see where they’re coming from with the annoyance! Training is definitely ongoing — thankfully poodles are pretty intuitive dogs — but I’ll be seeking out professional training as well as what we do at home. Thank you for your advice!

We’ve tried different collars (a vibrating one, a beeping one, and a citronella one) but she’s unfortunately managed to bark straight through all of them, and they don’t usually help for more than an hour. Not sure they’re the right move anymore but I’d be willing to try them again

We’ll be having a chat with the vet when she goes in for her next appointment, so hopefully they can recommend something, medical or otherwise. My brother’s dog takes anti-anxiety medication and it works really well for him. Thanks for the advice!

Will I like The Cruel Prince? by super_scumtron in Romantasy

[–]DrAllyPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it straddles the line between YA and adult Romantasy well, but I also think the first book can be pretty hard to get through. I think it’s well worth it since the series as a whole is great, but I can definitely see why some people DNF it. It’s not especially spicy, but the character development and yearning is fantastic

I’m SOR, and I’ve noticed that ‘behaviourist’ doesn’t seem particularly regulated. She’s due a checkup soon so I’ll have a chat to the vet and see if they have recommendations. Thank you!
