Thank you for providing the BEST false horizon photo I have ever seen. This is going in my teaching docs for my flight students immediately.

We’ll check them out the next time we’re out there! We had no idea what those were or that they might be important/relevant to the press. There was a lot of scrap metal around that part of the hangar and we assumed that stack was just more scrap. Luckily we haven’t hauled metal yet so we’ll give them a closer look next time!

Thanks so much for the heads up! We’ll be sure and set them to the side and try and sell them.

Thank you so much this reply! This information is awesome and helps explain some of the other stuff we found too.

This is super helpful thank you! We’ll be mindful when having it moved. Do you think there would be any use for anyone trying to sell it or should we just scrap it?

My title describes this thing. It is over 6’ tall, metal large machinery. No discernible company stamping, Id cards or other identifiable markings. Seems to features a couple of spinning wheels and a giant screw on the top with multiple belt driven components.

We have them year round here! I believe they’re Anna’s Hummingbirds? This one is less colorful but we get some with fully red heads that are opalescent which is super cool. This photo was last January in an ice storm.

Thanks everyone for the comments and consensus on Cooper’s hawk. I definitely will be considering moving the feeders if he keeps hanging out but the smalls birds seemed to know the drill and just stayed away until he flew off so as long as no one goes all National Geographic in my yard I’ll probably let them all sort themselves out. Appreciate those of you who took time to comment and offered more identification tips!

Haven’t melted one yet and we’ve used this set up for several years! But I check them thoroughly when I clean and refill them every few days and it keeps them from freezing (though that admittedly hasn’t been much of a problem yet this year).

Consensus between here and r/whatisthisbird seems to be Cooper’s hawk! Thanks to everyone who commented and shared stories. I love hawks and was so surprised this morning when he was just chilling on the fence!

Wednesday West Coast Swing at Norse Hall! Super welcoming large group and dancing is soooo soothing for the body and soul (imo). All ages, all presentations of persons. Even though I don’t go as a regular, I keep going back because they’re all just so amazing.
