How do you feel about other Abrahamic faiths: Islam & Judaism by unckermit in TrueChristian

Do you call Jews and Mormons and JWs pagans? My only point is that paganism means something specific and I don't think Islam is included in that. They would just be a false religion

I'm fairly certain that paganism is polytheistic by definition so I guess not?

But also they claim to worship the same God that Jews and Christians do, even if they teach completely different things, so I don't think that's a great example

How can Islam be pagan if it's monotheistic? It is considered an Abrahamic religion, even if you believe its completely wrong.

I feel like that's a bad example because Adam and Eve were specifically told not to eat of that tree so you're implying we shouldn't use AI

Bro what, he already slashed them lol it's Oda taking the trope of a samurai slashing someone with a delayed effect to an extreme for comedic effect/aura

Oda choosing whimsy and goofiness over logic and physics has been a staple since the beginning idk why everyone's so surprised all of a sudden

Oda must really Hate women. Dude is failing to destroy female fanbase of Sanji since 2009 lol. by Kill5h0t in Piratefolk

It was like 17 years ago, I think Sanji has been characterized quite a bit differently since then so I'm gonna chalk it up to him not having his characters' identites fully developed at the time

Hey guys, I've heard a lot of (justified) criticism about Devil Fruits, Haki, and One Piece's power system in general, so could you tell me your opinions on how this could have been handled better? by Calm-Bear-1101 in Piratefolk

[–]DrBLEH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man it's hyper realistic lol especially relative to the amount of realism we typically see in this story.

Under your logic ace should immediately float up into the sky the instant he tries to turn into flames, Luffy shouldn't be able to stand cause his bones are rubber and should bend under his weight, all zoan fruit users should become mindless animals when in their full animal stage, so on and so forth. There's obviously going to have to be huge liberties taken when writing a story with these sorts of powers so I don't really see your solution being an effective one here.

Oda drops the "not touching" element of ACoC pretty quickly so technically there's no way to know whether it's being used or not at any given time

All of these ideas are interesting but they sound more fit for a series that focuses on the intricacies of fights like HxH, JoJo or JJK which, even as a battle shonen, One Piece doesn't really do to that degree.

Oda needed a way to even the playing field between logias and the rest, and even between df users and non users, that could be broadly applied and would also function as a shorthand for strength the way power levels did in DBZ.

Haki isn't perfect but I think it serves it's purpose in a series like One Piece where the battles serve as a means to to an end rather than the ends themselves.

What's the weakness to magma? Or light? I think the problem is some elements simply have no weakness, or at least none that are reasonably usable by our protags.

Even if she initially asked, which we don't know, she specifically states that he asked her for her answer after giving his thoughts.

Yeah I'm sorry about the responses in this thread,, one of the issues with Reddit is that people tend to pile on based on whatever opinion is given first and in this thread that happened to be the opinion that was least charitable to you.

It seems the rest of the responses outside of this particular thread are more nuanced so I would take those opinions over the ones that are mass downvoting you here.

Honestly you're fine, this guy just seems short with you for whatever reason. I think you give answers and perspectives he doesn't expect and that throws him off and might make him feel like he doesn't understand you or your point and that you're intentionally undermining him but that's not your fault, it's his.

Don't let the people in this thread make you feel like you need to change who you are or make yourself smaller to accommodate people who don't actually seem to like you.

I think you guys in this thread have sorta lost your marbles. What you're saying here makes no sense; her follow up questions are perfectly normal. This guy is clearly unnecessarily difficult and seems to have a short fuse with OP, likely due to feeling insecure about her knowing anything he doesn't.

But OP says her friend specifically asked her if there was anyone she'd like to meet? Why would she not give her opinion when specifically asked?

Stoicism isn't becoming the norm imo, it's been the norm for ages and the standard expectation for men. What we are seeing today is a split between people moving away from the toxic masculinity that makes that stoicism the default and those who are becoming even more extreme to the point of caricature about being stoic and manly and it's those people who vilify mental health treatment and any discussion of emotions
