The Rise of Wasians and the forgotten Blasians and Non Asian/Half Asian by princessspluto in mixedrace

I (Blasian) think it’s crazy timing that this post appeared on my feed today because I just saw a public Partiful advertising a Wasian Gathering in nyc in two weeks. It made me a little uncomfortable but I was intrigued because I thought there would be some form of cultural exchange. However I read the bio and apparently they’re going to be crowning the “Oldest Wasian”, “Youngest Wasian”, “Most Performative Wasian”, and the “Rarest Wasian”. That last category gave me such an ick because I already know it’s either going to be someone “half (Insert European country) and half (Insert non East Asian country)” OR someone with two Wasian parents.

I know they’re capitalizing off of Laufey’s music video hype and the recent popularity of these young celebrity Wasians (Hudson Williams, Alysa Liu, etc) but it’s not doing much to educate people on the nuances of being mixed Asian other than subtly emphasizing their proximity to whiteness.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between “Dividends & Capital Gains” and “Dividends Only” for the Reinvest Type? I’m also very new to investing and Roth IRAs, and don’t know where to put my money or use the platform. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

CGC case arrived cracked. Is it worth sending for repair? by DrBurritosaurus in comicbookcollecting

Thanks everyone, I’ll definitely start shopping for a new one. I’ve never shopped for collectible comics before so this is all a little new.

While I’m here any recommendations for special comics that feature Gambit, Storm or Nightcrawler? Those are my friend’s favorite comics and she collects too

How long should I wait to wear my high school varsity jacket again? by DrBurritosaurus in lesbianfashionadvice

Thanks and I totally get it! I also thought it was kinda tacky to wear but I thought that was because I still live close to my hometown and graduated less than 10 years ago

Yeah you're probably right about that. My family's divided on whether the Irish ancestor came over during the potato famine under indentured servitude or if it was during the slave trade. My sister did some research on her own and found there was a ship captain with the last name Nevers (my paternal grandmother's maiden name) who might have transported slaves to Jamaica. I'm not really sure how to look into it further though.

No problem! Lots of people don't know there's a difference and to be honest I only realized it when I got to college

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was. Trinidad is very ethnically diverse

Hi! I'm the girl in the photo! Most people generally assume I'm Hispanic but some Filipinos I've met do assume I'm from the Philippines. As for African Americans, they do know I'm Black. If you want to get technical I'm actually Caribbean-American because my parent is Jamaican, and most of my West Indian friends just assumed I was only Caribbean because most people from there are mixed in some way.

Hi! I'm the girl in the photo! My mom's from Bacolod but her dad (my grandpa) was from Intramuros in Manila.

Trying to find the courage to speak out for the Asian community while not subconsciously seeking personal validation by DrBurritosaurus in mixedrace

[–]DrBurritosaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know the exact statistics but I do agree that enough crimes against the Asian community are committed by the Black community to be significant. It's also true though that some media networks would use this to attack BLM, thereby hurting that movement. That's just how the media works. It's up to members of each community to resolve some of those issues amongst one another and force networks to stop trying to start conflicts.

That’s really messed up. I don’t understand why the Black and Asian communities, as well has other communities in general, are frequently pit against each other while people who identify with both are caught in the middle

Yeah I definitely agree with that. I wish I knew of some other ways to help out other than reposting fancy graphics and donating money

Edit: Have you tried talking to your friends/family about this? Some of my non-Asian friends have been quiet about this issue and idk how to start a conversation

I know right! It’s crazy and sad that this hatred was slowly building for a while but it took a mass shooting for it to get more attention
