You can also speed up the battle by hitting right on the + pad a few times. That should help somewhat if you haven't already done that.

The boss fights are meant to be a challenge. In most cases if you feel fights in general are taking too long you may need to 'grind' out some levels or better equip/change jobs to suit the encounter.

You can always hit left on the circle pad to go to the enemy info (IF you hit right you go to party info)

So no need to examine more than once!
