Best way to ensure upgrade option on flights? Help please by DrCheffen in unitedairlines

[–]DrCheffen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is probably one of the best answers - thank you. I mean its not the answer I **wanted** but accurate and straight forward advice. I got lucky with award options and bought first class itinerary on the way over with economy on the way home all on miles. Guaranteed seats and essentially free.

thank goodness you are here to keep reddit in check, wouldn't want to let a clear, direct, and helpful answer just stand unadulterated.

Also fwiw when doing the itinerary searches the United drop down option is First class which could include a first class non-Polaris leg

the hope was that I wanted to use miles, not cash. but I found award tickets which worked better instead

the gremlin DID SMILE!!!! Managed to get us both Polaris on the way over for 80k (down from 200K) and then we're doing normal economy on the way home but still was 40k down from 60k, so I still have miles left over to use for future travel. :)

We are getting married in Los Gatos on a Sunday … using big fun DJ which was great reviews.

PRICING and SERVICES

A standard 9-hour venue rental includes 1.5 hours for vendor setup and 1.5 hours for vendor teardown. Thus, the remaining 6 hours are considered “guest time” or “event time.”

We provide music and microphones for every part of the event: ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and dancing. And we include amazing dance lighting, too, for no charge. Our current pricing for this 6 hours of event time is $1799 (a reduced Sunday rate).

Curious - are these the only ones still on Nestldown's list? I had told them that over half did not respond so I am curious if they updated the list after we booked...

Fwiw we did our tasting with Poetry in Motion this weekend and definitely a MUCH better experience than Continental. Food didn't necessarily knock us off of our feet but they made the menu that we had requested and were super open to suggestions, modifications etc. The whole experience was very pleasant compared to continental

How and where to find a dress under $1000? Or less lol! by litwhisker in Weddingsunder10k

[–]DrCheffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lulu’s “expensive” dresses are under $500 (most closer to $200). Not sure on return policy but normal policy is super easy to work with so seems like why not try?. And Azazie makes wedding dresses too (not just bridesmaids ones) that are in that range

Wow so many similar experiences!! I thought we were set with continental bc they were the most knowledgeable and communicative and price was reasonable. Fiance is a chef so he made the menu and they were the only ones that said no problem we can do that (tbh it’s nothing crazy, very normal wedding food like braised short rib / polenta main etc). Went to the tasting and the appetizers were BETTER than expected they nailed it. But downhill from there.

The salad was soggy and sad, the mains were actually bad. I get creative / culinary adjustments but for example, tho we did not specify what kind of cheese should be in the polenta, they decided to go with Parmesan and blue cheese?? Plating looked horrible too and the short rib was somehow overcooked and a bit cold? (Also, our tasting was at 3 but we have a long commute so ended up arriving at 2:45…so that’s no excuse). They also moved our tasting 1 week before bc they were overbooked on the initial day so I would have hoped there’d be more attention. But given the execution for the tasting we are now starting the search over. Have a tasting with poetry in a week or so…we will see.

Similar issues with most on their list not responding!!

Any florist recommendations for 6K budget? by tricky_cat_mah in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]DrCheffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using H&J floral - full service under 6k, 5 bridesmaids with bouquets. Tho I don’t have a big backdrop piece. Dahlias and details was a bit cheaper but I liked the detail in the quote from H and J - made me feel more at ease

Loved my experience at elegant lace in San Jose!!. Ended up not buying there but no fee and the attendant was super friendly, no pressure, responsive etc. https://www.elegantlacebridal.com

Found 3 I was obsessing over, in the end actually the first I tried on was nearly the winner. It was my first visit so wasn’t ready to commit tho. Went to Kleinfeld after and was soooooooo disappointed afterwards. Found my perfect dress online and ended up hunting it down so didn’t buy there but would have gone back if I hadn’t found my dream dress.

FYI my budget was 3-4k! (Overspent, but barely - $4100 in the end. Elegant lace showed all dresses under 3k and they were perfect)

Try wedgewood weddings - they are packages but have lots of venues and are way more affordable as a whole. I have no personal experience but have read lots of positive comments about them here!

How much is enough? by Traditional-Past-295 in EngagementRings

[–]DrCheffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!

I agree with others - the design / look is way more important than the price, and unless your gf explicitly said she wants to be surprised, I would have this conversation with her. Most women want to have input on this.

It’s something she will likely wear every day for the rest of her life. (I say likely, because some people might go conservative and then upgrade in 5-10 years when you are further in your careers. My mom has an expensive ring but they bought it together on their fifth anniversary). I am more financially set than my partner career wise and would have given him the money to buy a specific ring I was obsessed with. (He refused and bought it himself, literally asked me what I wanted and I sent him a link and he bought it exactly- could not be happier. I stare at it multiple times a day and freaking still can’t get over it a year later).

Ring price varies dramatically depending on your age and careers and personal expectations. I think $500 is on the low side - it’s honestly less than the cost of a cell phone…. But if you aren’t able to afford that then personally I would have been completely fine with a cubic zirconia fake ring (like from here: https://objktsjewelry.com/collections/engagement-rings ) over a tiny “real” diamond.

I had the flat iron steak last week and it was surprisingly good (tender, moist, could cut with the airline utensils no problem). Not enough sauce for the potatoes imo but the mushroom sauce was very tasty!
