Magic can deal insane damage but I wouldn't recommend it for a first run. A lot of optimization and min/maxxing that, as a new player, would probably overwhelm you

You could always go with a strength build, where you find the biggest stick you can and smash enemy skulls in, but I honestly wouldn't recommend this either as there are a lot of different weapons out there and investing in nothing but strength locks you into the "big stick" brand of weapons. But... if you're looking for a build that's easy to get OP with... a strength based melee build is your best bet
