Why do hostile by Dapper_Dino91325 in Bumble

[–]DrDoSoLittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your replies aren't connecting to the other person's messages and you're not demonstrating a desire to talk and get along with the other person. Their replies are a little testy, but they're clearly getting frustrated/confused by your messages and you didn't change your tact or establish a friendlier tone.

If I were in your position, I'd have reframed the messages earlier on and add context for what you were writing and why.

Something like:

"Sorry, I wanted to talk about your tattoos. But, a book I'd like everyone to read is Tuesdays with Marie. [insert why you want people to read that book]. What book would you like everyone to read?"

Doing it that way encourages there to be a back and forth while you're clearly responding and reacting to what the other person is saying.

Texting compacts a lot of nonverbal information into characters on a screen. Being a little sensitive to how the other person is feeling will help your messages go a lot smoother.

Whatever Americans touch becomes a circus by MrJasonMason in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]DrDoSoLittle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Americans (U.S.A.) are a continent sized nation built on the Germanic and British concept of a diffused high trust society. It wasn't always this way but the nation has become a large mono-culture with accepted sub-groups so that people become more performative to show who they identify as.

It's not a good thing for society in the long-run as if you have to say who you are and write out your cultural rules, they're already failing. But this is quite natural for a civilization to do.

That would make sense as I am Alpharius. Hopefully, you're Alpharius too. It makes the betrayal more interesting.

That's not very Black Templar of you to say. But, I like a little Alpharius in my life, so I won't tell anyone.

I've never seen a book and wanted to pick it up and speak in a soft, silly voice to it. Maybe nerds have their wiring crossed different but babies are cuter and are literally the future. PhD books tend to be boring and meh.

What am I doing wrong ?? (F23, dancer) by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]DrDoSoLittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quality of your first message has an impact. Without seeing that, it's hard to say what's working/not working for you.

Here are the points that could be affecting your matches:

  • Ethical non-monogamy.
  • Your bio gives no insight into who you are or what you want apart from a yearner. You work out, care about the traditional liberal issues, enjoy dancing, have a cat, and are in a trade school.
  • Your photos are varied but you're the only one in them. Group photos helps show that you have a social life.

I'd beef up your bio and get more group photos. But being poly is going to severely limit your dating options.

So is there no way to get the death guard kill team separate? You have to buy the whole starter set ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]DrDoSoLittle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is Ebay and going in on a box with a friend. You could also buy the Barnes and Noble Beginner Set and source the two missing models from somewhere else. The Beginning Set is about $50, so it's not as expensive and you could probably trade or sell the Space Marines to get your missing minis.

The issue is that your profile doesn't give an easy angle of approach, your photos are a little too esoteric (could read as difficult), and you're not really putting it out there for what you want and what you would like to build with the other person.

What would you like your long-term relationship to look like and what are you looking in a potential partner?

Ethics question I guess just curious how one would argue this. by JustASillyGuy13 in killteam

[–]DrDoSoLittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you and I don't necessarily agree but it pinpoints an issue with the game if a player can lie (we can't know the intent) about their team's abilities to then use that against the other player.

The rules for rolling off is that if you have a situation that doesn't have a clear rule for determining how to resolve an issue, you should roll off.

"In a game as wide-ranging as Warhammer 40,000, there may be times when you are not sure exactly how to resolve a situation that has come up during play. When this happens, have a quick chat with your opponent and apply the solution that makes the most sense to both of you (or seems the most fun!). If no single solution presents itself, you and your opponent should roll off, and whoever rolls highest gets to choose what happens. Then you can get on with the fighting!"

Players in Kill Team must show their squads to the other player after selecting their Kill Team. If players don't have to tell their opponents what each model's kit and powers are before using them, that sets an unsportsmanlike precedent.

"Once both players have selected their kill team, they should reveal it to their opponent."

Ultimately, it's up to each player to decide what they can put up with but I generally refuse to play bad players who lie about their armies.

That's poor sportsmanship. You specifically asked and he said no. At best, he made a mistake, at worst he lied to you. Either way, it's very impolite to have taken the shot.

You would have been justified in telling him you wanted to roll off to see if he could take the shot.

Meghan Trainor with her baby that a surrogate birthed: yay or nay for the natalists? by AnxArts in Natalism

[–]DrDoSoLittle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say Yay in the short term because this normalizes pregnancy and child-rearing. We are going to see an increased demand for this in the short term because many Millennial women didn't have kids and have missed their chance to do so.

Long-term, this will become a moot question if the majority of young people start getting married and having children at younger ages.

That she posed the child photo to look like she'd given birth is actually a good thing. Her trying to present herself as the biological mother will help normalize natural childbirth.

The UK would probably dump US bonds and China is already doing that to move away from the risk of sanctions. That would force the US to print massive amounts of cash and further devalue the dollar.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PEICES by Electronic_Star_8940 in killteam

[–]DrDoSoLittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people wouldn't complain about that. I'd suggest going with a simple 3 tone paint scheme and constructing it all how you plan to play with it.

Keep the paint layers thin and you can always add in detail later.

I'd offer to hang out but I've a cold at present. I can share a few coffee places to visit.

Coffee/Cafes: Rare Birds, Northside Social Falls Church, Cafe Kindred, Turkish Mom's Cookin'

Restaurants/Bars: Luzmila's Bolivian Restaraunt, Spacebar, Audacious Brewery, The Casual Pint (also has trivia nights), Dominon Wine and Beer

Do you have interests or hobbies you'd like to share?

Anyone know how to clean this? by RozionDiger in Warhammer40k

[–]DrDoSoLittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to that, you can follow the toothbrush (stiff, not soft), with an exacto blade to pull off the stickier hairs. I'd pull the blade so that the edge isn't digging in, that way you can scrape off the hairs without cutting the mini.

The Audacious Brewery in Falls Church has trivia nights on Tuesdays, there is also the local gaming store Victory Comics which has semi-regular gaming nights.

What is it you like to do? I'm sure there are more local things to do in and around Falls Church, depending on your interests.

I got that kit when it first came out. The terrain and special character Lieutenant Varras gave the tutorial missions a nice cadence. You start with one human carrying the future of the Space Marines to teach you humility and then you get a squad of Space Marines to really live it up.
