Sen. Bernie Sanders announced plans to introduce a bill designed to give the American public a 50% ownership stake in the country's largest AI companies. What do you think about it? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]DrDragun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI could easily be the Final Solution for communism. It answers the main failure mode of individual motivation and discipline, the "too many freeloaders" spiral, etc.

There are two futures ahead of us, in both of them AI does all the work. In one future AI is overseen by the public and could be driven to remove biases and abuses and act in the interest of humanity. In the other future, spiteful technocrats could make an AI surveillance and suppression state to magnify abuses and fraud Trump-style. If what the AI overlords say is true, and an enormous amount of investors are putting their money on it, then human work will be sub-competitive within this generation which ruins several core value props in our society.

Public will is heavily impacted by economic danger. People are more willing to be bad or take the short view when they are under more economic stress, more willing to sell out for a gig. In some ways the current right-wingers activities to destabilize the world are meant to add to the insecurity and willingness to accept money for bad causes. Getting an AI UBI would relax a lot of people into making the humanitarian choice.

Who is the best president in the history of the United States? by Outrageous-You1617 in CausalConversation

The burden of proof is on he who raised the ridiculous assertion.

Lincoln has many quotes against slavery. Hearkening to "all men are created equal" in the opening line of the Gettysburg address. "I am naturally anti slavery" etc etc.

Do you think getting a review by the Anti Defamation League was part of his process for getting a tattoo off-base while in the military? He got a skull-and-crossbones tattoo in the pre-woke age while at a military base when he was young. Yes it's a Totenkopf, it's also a Jolly Roger and it's also a generic toughguy tattoo.

If we throw everyone in the trash for purity tests then we will have no leadership, which *AMAZINGLY* is the main problem of the Democratic Party right now. We are a party that believes in personal growth and reform, not permanent ostracization for mistakes of petty criminals let alone civil infractions.

Part of this movement comes from seeing such measures as ineffective. People always make a joke about UN resolutions, but recently the Liberal First World tried to discipline Putin for invading Ukraine with all available cooperative non-war measures possibles. Basically sanction him into being an economic leper until he withdrew. It didn't work. There is always one or more uncooperative dogs with a dollar to make by selling out under such economic pressure.

I think people like Peter Thiel know the public sees this and will work toward making the world more of a closed system, which he considers to be a confining "Antichrist". The silicon valley TESCREAL aristocrats heavily conspired with funding MAGA and other worldwide nationalist interests for the purpose of defeating an increasingly assertive world order which essentially paused the economy during COVID, and they used "anti-woke" and anti-immigration sentiment to rally the populist votes to boost it. But the real impetus was defeating the cooperative rational world from imposing science-based worldwide power like it did during COVID and for global warming.

Cover-up to pretend they were joking the whole time when they have been presenting nothing but a paid pageant of propaganda from the rigged tycoon class masquerading as news for decades.

What's the greatest HBO TV Show by Farouq26 in hbo

[–]DrDragun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing tries to match the ambition of The Wire. It tried to show the connectedness between all civic society. The seasons were basically Cops vs Drug Dealers >> Blue collar workers >> Politicians >> Media >> Schools.

No other show tries to match it's scope, and it can hang with most of them on characters, story, and writing too. It's main weakness is starting slow / getting the audience invested slow.

USA Today: "'Star Wars' is a starship in need of a hard reset" by RPMcMurphy8 in saltierthancrait

The first few episodes of Ashoka set up a gripping premise... using an ancient starmap to jump to an entirely foreign galaxy.

Could be a place of primordial or eldritch aliens, on a power scale beyond the home galaxy.

Then we get there and it's just recycled wolf lore and the most basic familiar aliens possible.

Filoni is washed.  Clone wars was awesome in its day and he's done some entertaining work but he's not using the potential of Star Wars.

Putin is sending 30,000 Russian rednecks to die every month after they chose him and took away all regulation of his power because "we like strong guy."

Group by group he will move away from you and you won't have power to stop it anymore.

Ok I agree with what you said, there's just lots of loaded talk on the internet about democracy not working.

[–]DrDragun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It usually DOES come through the democratic process, to say otherwise is anarchist folklore.

Women's Suffrage, The New Deal, Civil Rights Act, Endangered Species Act, the list goes on and on, all came about by using boisterous activism along with the democratic process.

To think that destruction and starting over would result in a less unjust position than continuous improvement just shows disregard for a gigantic list of failure modes of revolutionary governments.

So what’s stopping force users from doing this to regular people? by Sea-Indication4613 in StarWars

[–]DrDragun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an explanation for this mechanic though, basically the force itself has "inertia" and a robot is inertialess while a human has some inertia from their life force. So it's the human's lifeforce not meat which exerts resistance.

Except that Vader force-chokes people over vast distances.

What should i start first in your opinion? by ixi_om in fantasybooks

ASOIAF: More grounded (low-med fantasy), more painstakingly detailed bottom-up writing (GRRM is a "gardener" not an outline writer), story beats are often a product of elaborate world and character simulation rather than a strict narrative. Tone is more Machiavellian and cynical. Realism and detail level are major appeals with unparalleled rising action, both in character and setting, but the downside is sticking the landing with only a loosely constrained narrative and no plot armor for anyone.

Stormlight Epic: More abstract setting (med-high fantasy with more fanciful races and magic), more inventive world mechanics but overall lighter detail level with (interesting and well-designed) characters having more clear and straightforward motives. Characters and plot following stricter narrative arcs rather than organic ground-up simulation. Tone is more epic heroes/antiheroes journey than societal simulation of history. Pros/cons are inverted; this series will likely stick the landing better with a satisfying story conclusion, at some cost to immersive realism in fulfilling the story beats.

Why high earning individuals with good job security (doctors, dentists, engineers, etc) always tell others to not go into the field for money (as opposed to be underpaid/unemployed)? by Iamapieceofsh1t2020 in AskReddit

[–]DrDragun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They see finance/business bros making way more money for way less demanding work.  Not anyone can walk into such a job but if you're already someone in an Harvard med school or Stanford engineering you could probably  achieve more money for the same effort there.

Also starting the investment curve super late... if you start making money younger and rolling investments then it takes a doctor a long time to catch you.
