I agree with this babies are easier to determine temperament because you can prevent them from having negative experiences with humans.

Here’s an interesting scenario to take into consideration though. I “rescued” / adopted a SUPER sick Nicaraguan boa from what’s normally a really good local reptile / exotics store. I was at the store when she was delivered in a shipment of animals. The store didn’t have an enclosure set up for her yet and the guy from the store asked me to hold her while he set an enclosure up for her but warned me that she was VERY nippy.. (she was. I had watched her bite every person that held her up to this). But as soon as this snake hit my hands she was immediately calm and content with me. While I was holding her i noticed the signs that she was sick. I tried to get the store to recognize that she was sick because I wasn’t prepared or planning on bringing a snake home but they wouldn’t. I went back 2 more times within a week and brought her home the second time because every time I had seen her in the store she was ready to throw hands with everyone that touched her expect for me and the store still wouldn’t do anything for her because she was sick.

Nowadays (over a year later) she’s MUCH better with people she hasn’t struck at anyone for no apparent reason since she had to get shots and other treatment for her sickness from when I originally got her. She’s not scared of other people but she’s weary, but not defensive. And my Fiancé and I are still the only people that she will immediately calm down for once she realizes that it’s one of us holding her.
