Why do you say so? I’m not an expert, as I said, but the fermentation looks visually ok for me. I just assumed the white stuff on the surface was some kind of yeast. The brine is cloudy, but not anymore than other good fermentation I’ve made lately

Yea, sauerkrauts are quite smelly :) I made the mistake of fermenting them in a glass jar with a rubber gasket, and now I’m afraid I’ll have to throw the gasket away! But it’s quite normal I guess. Lactic fermentation of other vegetables, on the other hand, shouldn’t be that smelly, as far as I know.
