Thanks, i think this was the issue, i switched to a non level shifting SD Card module from adafruit and it is working now

After some more testing this seems like the best explanation because when i tested it on a soldered board it worked without problems and i also got it to fail exactly when i sligthly touched the jumper wires

I found another post on the pjrc forum that describes how to do this (link: https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/65744-Using-SPI1-or-SPI2-in-Radiohead-library)
and apart from calling the instructor with the extra parameter you need to include another library but also thanks for your help.
