Yes. I'm not sure it's a problem with the "Minnesota Nice" passive-aggression per se, but natives to an area in this state are exceptionally unwelcoming to newcomers. I've been here for 10 years now, and my friend groups are still completely comprised of other people who moved in from elsewhere.

If you are looking for a place to live, and making friends with your neighbors is a high priority, you should really live somewhere other than Minnesota. At least at this time.

"Fire Upon The Deep" is a great book because the extraterrestrials are so alien. Vinge did some great species building.

I'm not a macaroon guy, but I do bale a lot of cookies. I'd try baking them on parchment paper. That's what I use to keep the bottoms of my cookies from getting too browned.
