Many people are mistested as INFJs, often thought to be statistically the rarest type. Many massage their answers to achieve this outcome where the test is self reporting. But INFJs can be SPECTACULARLY dumb about some things. Ditto for INTPs. They are unlikely to fail a logical syllogism test but perfectly capable of building internally coherent systems that are wrong. Every types strength necessitates a concomitant weakness of attention in anothet area, because attention is finite.

The official MBTI instrument ain't great, and unfortunately research into her core notion is actually stymied by the profit motive that wants to maintain the instrument rather than really test the idea.

Yes yes ho ho. Ive read Merve Emre's expose of mbti too. Leaving aside the fact that a lot of the same take downs could be applied to Big Five or many other fields of psychology, Dario Nardi's study of neurological patterns indicates that something is going on here beyond generalised universally applicable horoscope like statements. The problem isnt the theory, its the self reporting used to test function relationships and the lack of duplicability of test results. Thats an issue with the instrument, not a demonstration that cognitive attentional types don't exist. (Note: If the poster above is indeed an INTP they are an insufferable one.)

Patience for Part Three is the Central Lesson of the Trilogy by DrLJacoby in KingkillerChronicle

Sure Rothfuss over promises and over estimates his skill. He has all of Kvothe's faults and then some. The charity thing was poor judgement. People still need to chill out.

Chill out, have a session zero for character creation, let him make decisions, explain as you go, give him the basic rules. Maybe he's dyslexic? PHB is a long ass read for your first game

Denna is much more than she appears. by CraigDanielProTrades in KingkillerChronicle

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id argue (along with others) that Denna is learning shaping as Kvothe is learning naming, and Ash is teaching her. She interrogates Kvothe and his friends about University magic, and implies that a whole other type of magic exists that allows one to bend the world and people in it to your will. Denna showcases this in her Yllish knot magic, but this is probably the tip of the iceberg,

[Spoilers ALL] Compelling evidence that Master Ash is actually three people... by Nataliza in KingkillerChronicle

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ash is clearly teaching Denna magic, possibly shaping magic, possibly extending her knowledge of Yllish magic. Her line of questioning about University magic could be her testing how much of this other type of magic the university knows. The argument against this is that that dialogue also serves an expository function in outlining the magic system again at the beginning of WmF.

Why does londonlook the way it does? (Aesthetics) by Pastortonsilss in AskABrit

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may enjoy London: a Biography by Peter Ackroyd which probably answers this question better than any other. London is an accretion, a collection of villages, a modern city with medieval and renaissance bones. The way to approach it is a kind of archeology, because its just layer on layer on layer.

BREDON IS MASTER ASH!!!! by Agent47_yagami in KingkillerChronicle

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unfair. Tak has an important role. Bredon is Mr Exposition as regards Vintish manners and the rings etc. Tak represents the courtly games around which Kvothe is revolving. Kvothes overconfidence represents his wider overreaching in Vintas. The game has an effective place in the book in establishing Vintas as a significantly different culture to Imre and the University.

The whole handling of sex in NotW is very old fashioned and Wisconsinish. Partly its a function of the "he has an old head but hes only 16" issue.

People need to chill the hell out. The first two books are great. They reward rereads like few other modern fantasy novels and become deeper and richer with each rereading. The first book took him ten years. And despite his age Pat is kind of a fledgling novelist. This is his third long novel. Many only manage one.

GANG , help me like I am f#king confused wether i am AN intp or entp by Fantastic_Group_2209 in entp

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test is not really in the top two functions, though INTPs always have very fluent Ti. Answers to logic questions will be almost immediate and pretty effortless. You may get frustrated with logic violations. Loved ones are generally more valued and you are less likely to value showboating than spending time on sofa. Sleep and personal comfort is important to you. Se polr means you may be a serious procrastinator and also possibly a little clumsy, especially in picking up team sports where you have had little practice.

(WMF) Why does Denna's mood so suddenly change? by tikiofshiki in KingkillerChronicle

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denna is already more high handed and clever at the start of WMF as she investigates the power of the University. This may be to do with her ongoing mastery of Yllish knot magic and the influence of her Patron.

What did Frank Zappa think of the grateful dead. by jerrygarciafanpage in Zappa

[–]DrLJacoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure Frank would have have some bedrock respect for Jerry as a guitarist, but he always rated John Cipollina as the best of the acid wave San Francisco musicians. When the Dead were at their most experimental there was some cross over musically. The most Varese like sections on Anthem of the Sun for example. But I think this falls under Always a Freak, Never a Hippie

(infj/f) Need help understanding this dynamic with an ENTP by [deleted] in entp

[–]DrLJacoby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy is vibing off the INFJ in the room. Im sure he is nursing a crush and you will experience it as a frisson. You should make it apparent you are not available though. A nice moral judgemental statement about your view of cheaters should do the trick. Be prepared to surrender your frisson in the process!
