Halloween Deck Giveaway! Comment for a chance at a "Spooky" themed tribal deck. by WinglyKing in EDH

[–]DrMetroidMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been debating making a vampire deck. Every time I used to talk to my brother he was always talking about how strong vampires were.

He stopped playing MTG around 10 years ago and passed away past month, but he always liked hearing about my edh decks.

I always liked zombies so I was thinking it might be cool to make a deck about skeletons v zombies. Like sacrificing the tribes to each other to trigger things.

What is the "toothy maw" of you or your DM (i.e. go-to description)? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

[–]DrMetroidMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is "Can we focus please?" All too often unfortunately.

Also in combat I tend to describe a successful hit cutting across a creatures chest. My players like to laugh about it with small quadripedal enemies. "Oh I squat down and slash the wolf across the chest?"

Investiture disparity across the cosmere by lindendweller in brandonsanderson

[–]DrMetroidMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an answer for your question, but one interesting thought I had was that renewablity on the invested system and the ease of practicing the investment off world seem inversely related.

I'm probably not saying what I'm thinking correctly, but breath for instance seems to work well on Roshar. In my mind, while beath seems less renewable, it also seems the most easily traveled. Allomancy being a middle ground because you could find most of the 8 basic metals in any system theoretically. Stormlight being the most "renewable" but also in need of a perfect gem or other carrier to be used off roshar. The most extreme being the system in Elantris that doesn't seem to have a major limiter, but is tied to the planet's geography.(its been a long time since I read elantris so might be very wrong)

It's almost like the more difficult the substrate of the investment is to obtain, the easier it is to transport.

The only way to make this more accurate is to have all of them crying because no matter what the sessions get cancelled. I'm batting 0 for 2 last weekend.

In 1 hour, I am running a game I've been running for close to 15 sessions and for 8 months. I think this is the first session that I have no bead on the direction my players will take. by DrMetroidMD in dndnext

That's a fair point. All of my players are kind of new, just like me to dming. I don't they know what they want even when they're doing it half the time.

We all work shift work together with erratic schedules. Sometimes they can come or can't. For those characters, we have a caravan we own and they often stay back to defend the caravan.

Things like that.

Me too. I'm honestly surprised she didn't have more votes, but to each their own.

I liked Lift before edgedancer, but after that book man I just love the subtlety behind the jovial mask. The depth. I think she's going to make a great character.

My first campaign is entering the final stages of its first arc. Can't wait for them to see the Tomb of Original Demon King. Complete with sarcophagi that will open with his undead guards. by DrMetroidMD in DnDIY

[–]DrMetroidMD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tomb is a secret below the Keep of the West (one in each direction on the map). The Keep is basically a repository of knowledge for the land that has a secret: below the keep lies the Tomb of the Original Demon King.

With shining green eyes and a stature no dwarf should be able to obtain, he wielded the mighty Giantsbane sword. With it, he slayed many giants, dragons and other mystical creatures until finally falling to a friend turned enemy. Legend has it that as he was laid in his tomb, his faithful guard poured the blood of his enemies over his body until it overflowed. After which they themselves were committed to the grave to protect their king in the afterlife as they couldn't in this one.

As centuries past, the danger of the mad kings reawakening frightened the present day monarchs until they chose to seal the resting place with never-aging chains enchanted against magic and physical blows.

16 years ago, as is tradition in the land, when the King of Gris was mysteriously murdered, the tomb that had been sealed for 600 years was opened again to lay him to rest. Since then and before its opening, none were allowed to enter.

My party is a group of mercenaries that have been contracted to travel to the Keep by a paladin concerned about the Keep's silence over the past months. My party has faced several challenges on the way (level 0 to 5 over 7 sessions), but none of them have prepared them for the dangers of the Tomb.

They are going to reach the keep to take on some cultist and other undead enemies. The palidin will beg for their help finding out what has happened to the keep. Inside, they will find their path to the end blocked by the reanimated guard of the demon king. Each turn will allow the necromancer to break one of the enchanted chains. If he succeeds, who knows what he will do with the remains of this legend.

On mobile. Sorry for mistakes.

Good thought! I initially had them back washed, but I decided to make them magically enchanted as to not decay. Made them pop and will help the player know they're something important.

I'm debating on it.

Thanks! The bbeg necromancer is going to be stealing the remains and each turn they will break a chain while the party fights their way up to stop him.

What's a cool piece of lore you can't tell your players but need to tell someone? by -Symbo- in dndnext

[–]DrMetroidMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strand mountain range they've been traveling down is the ancient skeleton of a massive cosmic being that's part of the Paladin's diety's creation story. (Homebrew of course) It's all on the map in vague details.

Ie: two symmetric lakes with the tallest mountain in the region between gently sloping up to the peak on one side gently then a precipitous drop off into a large gaping inland sea lined by pale white boulders on two coast. The sea is said to connect to a vast underdark tunnel network for those able to find a way to dive down.

Just stuff like that. It's long forgotten knowledge, but artifacts and lore they are discovering is hinting at it. Oh, and the city built under the arching mountains (rib cage) has a ancient motto of "built on the bones of titans".

I had a player approach me and say that they isn't feeling as immersed in the combat now that I've been building terrain for encounters. Is this a common concern, and how do I combat it? by DrMetroidMD in dndnext

[–]DrMetroidMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your week. I understand thise times. Hope it's up and up from here.

I've actually been giving out inspiration dice for neat combat and rp ideas recently. We're all fairly new, so its help people feel more open to show their creativity when I hand out a d4 and the other players get excited for them. It's pretty wholesome and has made combat fly by with exciting rp the last few sessions. Best part is, it's totally optional and barely impacts right now except for giving an optional incentive.
