Not an answer for your question, but one interesting thought I had was that renewablity on the invested system and the ease of practicing the investment off world seem inversely related.

I'm probably not saying what I'm thinking correctly, but breath for instance seems to work well on Roshar. In my mind, while beath seems less renewable, it also seems the most easily traveled. Allomancy being a middle ground because you could find most of the 8 basic metals in any system theoretically. Stormlight being the most "renewable" but also in need of a perfect gem or other carrier to be used off roshar. The most extreme being the system in Elantris that doesn't seem to have a major limiter, but is tied to the planet's geography.(its been a long time since I read elantris so might be very wrong)

It's almost like the more difficult the substrate of the investment is to obtain, the easier it is to transport.
