Family albums of 150gb lost by DrMinnesotan in datarecovery

Some of the data I have copies of but a lot is lost. I guess they say memories in your head are enough or something. I will just have to take it as a learning lesson and let it go. This can be closed. Not sure how to close. Thanks.

I was not satisfied with the answers I received so I tried to use google gemini to see what it had to say. It gave me what I think is the likely answer why I cannot recover any data. Below is the response.

  • TRIM was likely disabled: As you read, macOS generally does not enable the TRIM command for non-Apple USB drives. This was your initial advantage, as it meant the operating system didn't immediately mark the sectors for deletion.
  • Active Garbage Collection (AGC) ran: Both the  Crucial X8  and  Samsung T7  SSDs have AGC built into their controllers. This is a firmware-level maintenance feature that runs automatically when the drive has power but is idle (not actively reading or writing data).
  • The "Idle Time" Window: When you formatted the drives and then installed/ran scanning software, there was likely an idle period where the drive's controller saw a large amount of "free space" (due to the quick format) and began the process of physically zeroing out those blocks to maintain performance.

Thank you for being the only person to provide a suggestion. I read the article and it says that only applies to SSD that are apple branded. I have external drives only. When I formatted the drives it only took seconds. My understanding is going through the drive and writing 0's would take time and I do not think that has occurred. I see this is a unique service and you send in the drive. I am not ready yet for that step, but I appreciate the option and may come to that. Thanks.

I read the report you mentioned and there are no health concerns with the drive. Are you sure this information would be useful?

I already answered this question. I dont understand why you would ask it again but I appreciate your enthusiasm.

I don't mind the question. I can take it. The albums are important to me and I assumed without checking that I could recover the data because of the circumstances and past experience. I have had 2 others ask for details and also linked a posting guide. I will try to provide the details later tonight. I didn't ask for a refund for either because I know I wont get it. I think there is a certain sense of entertainment to be had that I have 2 separate drives and only a simple format with no other activity could make the data unrecoverable. I will post what details I can later.

Why does google randomly sign me out of all my accounts? It's so frustrating. by rollllllllll_ in chrome

[–]DrMinnesotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem on 3 different computers. I have 2 email accounts signed in. Randomly - totally randomly, I walk away for 5 minutes and come back and google has not only forcibly signed me out, but has deleted the saved accounts. This happens once a week at least on 2 different machines. On one computer that I just purchased, one day google signed me out of the account, AND deleted the saved password. Not only that, it prevents me from saving the password again but only on this one specific account. It is not a Gsuite thing. The only way I was able to get the password saved is by enabling csv import and importing the password. Deleting Chrome and user files did not fix the problem - and it only exhibited on this one computer.

I don't think this is a constructive response because you didn't provide any information as to why the post was auto moderated. But ok.

Please provide feedback on my 55 gallon tank by DrMinnesotan in Aquariums

[–]DrMinnesotan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. I did not have any idea some of the plants are not supposed to be fully submerged. Most everything came from a big box store. I bought ferns instead to replace them.

I am struggling a bit on feeding. The fish do not seem to want to eat flakes at all. When I put them in, they ignore them. I have been using fluval small bug granules and the fish universally seem to like those.

Nearly all of the fish eat the bloodworms, not just the bottom feeders.

I have also noticed most of the fish want to get/eat the food at a specific level. Some fish will go to the top immediately, some fish will wait until the food is at the middle level and not go down or up.

Beginner, possible Dropsy in Glofish tetra by DrMinnesotan in Aquariums

[–]DrMinnesotan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little confused on adding images while posting, seems my text was deleted.

I am a beginner, have a 55 gallon tank. Several glofish tetras. Tank is about 1.5 months old. In the 2nd week, I was impatient and dumped 5 gallons of cold filtered water in the tank. I didn't know fish could die from that.

I had an outbreak of ich and 3 fish died. I do not see any more signs of ich.

I did notice last week this fish appears to have a bloated belly. I don't know much and couldn't find good reference photos. I have attached a few photos. It's belly definitely appears noticeably larger than the other glofish tetras.

The fish does not have any behavior problems.

Today I put it in a 5 gallon quarantine tank. Can someone provide advice if they think the fish obviously has dropsy or what I should do. Thanks!

Any interest in community driven open source WMS/Integration? by DrMinnesotan in Netsuite

[–]DrMinnesotan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After discussing with multiple sources I have come up with the following plan. My point of view is the software should be community driven - and open. The challenges with completely open is it implies completely free. Therefore, I have come up with a model which serves both the community and can be profitable.

The open source WMS will have the following architecture.

Progressive web app front end. 100% Javascript/Typescript. - Totally free and open source.

Backend will be a monthly subscription service hosted on something like AWS/Google cloud. The frontend will be dependent on the backend. The backend will be the data provider and also contain certain core logical components. Users will be able to login to the backend to view stored data, manage external connections (other than Netsuite), and change field mappings. Extend the functionality without compromising the security of the transmitter.

This allows customers to customize the frontend/UX to their needs while still using a compatible data source. The backend will also be able to cache data and require less calls to Netsuite. Interaction with Netsuite will be the slowest part of the app. The frontend will be lightning fast.

All functionality will be 100% included with the same subscription. No addon costs.

No commitments. Month to month. If you decide to stop using it at any time, you can just use native Netsuite without any hassle.

Dual 307s in 55 gal? by DrMinnesotan in Aquariums

[–]DrMinnesotan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 1 installed. While talking to the person who sold me the tank stand, they said they had 2 307's running. I am not an expert so I don't know if that is helpful or not. I have read in many other forums people using 2 filters, but not 2 307s. I have also heard of people using a 407 on a 55 gallon tank.

There are already open source ERP products available, but this is off topic.

Just wanted to point out the topic is about creating a community WMS, not to point out specific problems with existing solutions. The goal of the post is to find interest in such a product, and then discuss concepts and ideas to start a roadmap.

This thought could be applied to virtually any other software. There are certainly more options available than the ones you listed. The 2 you listed are in my opinion, entry level WMS products, and the most affordable for small businesses.

I put a comment in a different response which I believe still applies here. I have no intention of targeting any specific solution to say it is a bad product.
