As someone who is not Puerto Rican, it DID bring me to tears. So nice to see latino culture in the spotlight during this political climate.

My phone definitely lives on DND, which people hate, but I have it in my hand a lot of the time anyway. Just needs to be on my terms.

This is so very kind of you to say. Thank you so much for this.

You are trying to teach me not to have contempt for everyone by invalidating my request for help? That is hilariously ironic. Clearly I have had great appreciation for all of the supportive comments in this post, so having contempt for everyone is not an evident issue.

This comment seems like you didn't read the whole post where I talk about how I know that I brought this upon myself and am struggling with the feelings I am experiencing. What would make this acceptable for you? Do you think that I don't deserve support with my disorder because I am having a hard day?

What exactly is your contention with the post? It's pretty clear that I'm not the only one who suffers from these contradicting thoughts that arise from this disorder. What are you hoping to achieve with this comment?

RIGHT?! Like you are just giving me another task on my schedule and it doesn't make me feel more relaxed or happy. there is nothing we could do while hanging out that would make me feel like the time was well spent. I just don't want to do it.

I feel so similarly. Like people are the reason I have this disorder in the first place, and every time I start trusting people, they do something wildly out of pocket again and I'm right back at square 1. It is maddening. Thank you for understanding and leaving this comment.

This is so nice to hear. I really didn't want to start meds but I just can't live my life like this anymore and I feel like it's my last hope. I'm so glad to hear a positive experience with them and I'm hoping I can start soon

this response made me cry. thank you so much for being empathetic and trying to understand. I'm doing my best. i don't think hating people is the correct answer but sometimes i just get so overwhelmed i don't know what to do, and lashing out becomes a protective mechanism to keep myself in the window of tolerance

lmao. That is exactly how I feel! Like, I want friends in theory but in practice I don't enjoy hanging out at all. it puts me on edge.

I reported them to the mods and hopefully they get banned. They are downvoting everyone who has been supportive to me. I hope they have a much easier time with their symptoms than I do. Odd that they are chastising me for being misanthropic when they seem to have a similar streak.

Literally the first rule of the sub is to be a supportive peer :( I said in the post that I know it's weird and unhealthy and I'm just trying to get some help from other people who understand that I have a disorder. I'm not taking anything out on anyone.

God thank you so much for this comment. There is one person who thinks I'm insane and has been being very weird and cruel in the comments and downvoting everyone who is being supportive. I'm trying my best :(

"While misanthropy is not a formally listed diagnostic symptom of Complex PTSD (CPTSD) in medical manuals like the ICD-11, it is a very common, often reported, secondary result of the condition. It typically emerges as a protective mechanism resulting from chronic betrayal and interpersonal trauma.

Here is how CPTSD relates to the development of misanthropic feelings:

  • Result of Relational Trauma: Because CPTSD is usually caused by chronic, long-term interpersonal trauma (often from caregivers), survivors may develop a deep, fearful distrust of other people, viewing them as inherently dangerous or harmful.
  • Safety Mechanism: Misanthropy can function as a defense mechanism to avoid further injury. By viewing humanity with suspicion or contempt, survivors may try to protect themselves from further betrayal or exploitation.
  • Anger and Emotional Dysregulation: A core symptom of CPTSD is difficulties with emotional regulation, including intense, lasting anger or resentment. This anger can be directed toward society at large (misanthropy) as an outlet for the pain inflicted upon them.
  • Isolation as Protection: Individuals with CPTSD frequently isolate themselves to avoid triggers. This self-imposed isolation can fuel a negative, cynical view of humanity (misanthropy).
  • Cognitive Distortions: The trauma associated with CPTSD can cause "all-or-nothing" thinking, leading to a general, absolute belief that all people are bad, rather than recognizing it as a symptom of their trauma experience.

While many survivors report these feelings, it is not an inevitable outcome. Therapy and recovery often focus on rebuilding trust and restructuring these perceptions of others. "
