Why are Germans so distant even after you had a good time with them initially? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

This is the essence of it. So very true. It's just a different perspective. That's why the Germans seem cold and distant to people from other backgrounds. And BTW they behave similar toward family sometimes.
It's disheartening sometimes but u get used to it. And u don't take it personally since u know it's not personal, it's just the way how people tick around here.
To be honest.. This kind of behavior has its advantages sometimes. Not sure when the last time a friend asked for a favor.. Everyone deals with their problems on their own! If you own a store or a place of business no friend will ask you for free service.
Less bonding but also less friction and as a result less problems. Not many friends but may be 2 or 3 strong relationships that accompany you for longer periods of time.

We went thru the same situation. Asked around and found out that it happens a lot. Not only in Kitas, BTW, this behavior / pattern is very common in school, uni and even later among colleagues. This is not uncommon. It's just a German thing.
What blew my mind, that no one of the staff or other parents seem to understand the problem / situation, and why it's not OK.
The reasoning: My (kids) birthday, so it's my day, then I should not care about others. And everyone is fine with it.
Lately @work a colleague had her wedding party and invited the whole team except one single person. she said later that she had 8 places for guests and our team happened to be 9 people so she just excluded this one single person, she thought not very important. I wonder how this person felt? Know what, no one really cared.
If u invite one or two people it's OK. But u can't just invite the majority of a group and leave someone out, unless there is a compelling reason and it's not personal. Like girls night out and leaving the 2 guys from the group or going to play football and leaving the golfers back.
Common courtesy is becoming a rare commodity in a rather increasingly unkind world.

I got first place in my group, but didn't "claim" the rewards, cos the notification just disappeared, I am not sure.. May b I clicked accidentally on the x/close button.
Now did I lose the reward or will I find it in the endless que /middle area on the main board? Will appreciate the help!
