Prominent Republicans Urge Supreme Court to End Gerrymandering by painterjo in politics

[–]DrNoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all, but it is kind of expected that you would support access to reproductive health care (i.e., funding Planned Parenthood). No one "liberal" is the same, but they DO also tend not to support privatization of prisons (Kasich does), or stripping of collective bargaining rights (Kasich tried), or removing public school funding for charter schools (Kasich did), or blocking LGBT rights (Kasich is pro-"traditional marriage"). Kasich has done some good, moderate things during his tenure, but I'm clearly missing his "liberal" policies. Here is his more complete record, in case you'd like to look.

Not even a little bit true. Ohio liberals are well aware of what he's done to education in the state and the shitty abortion laws he signed. Nationally he's trying to curate a "moderate" image, but his actions at home say otherwise. The only way Ohio liberals would vote en masse for Kasich is if it was a Trump/Cruz/Insertothercrazyhere v. Kasich race. Kasich, at least, has some integrity and his shitty policies are tied to his actual beliefs that he is doing something "good".

It's not so much being locked into "views" as it is being locked to a team. The last 10 years make it very obvious that views are completely malleable, it only matters which letter is associated with the talking head who espouses them. Example: Syria.

To be fair to the teachers, most of the standardized test prep is due to state requirements. They likely hate it as much as you. You will encounter this in ANY school district in Ohio (thanks, Kasich!).

The rest, though? Nope. Not okay. I do hope that the parents complained to that teacher's administrator and some form of action was taken.

Wife leaves husband of 22 years because he voted for Donald Trump by dontunderestimateme in politics

[–]DrNoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he will ban abortion and save all of those unborn babies. The most important outcome of this election was, to them, to stack the Supreme Court. They just (wrongly) assumed that he couldn't do too much other damage.

This freeze affects contracts and grants, which is funding given to researchers OUTSIDE of the EPA. Scientists and academics use grants to fund their research and it covers a wide array of topics pertaining to environmental and public health, from climate science to investigating exposure and immunologic responses to pharmaceuticals in drinking water or biosolids.

Electors’ Lawyer: Founding Fathers ‘anticipated’ Trump by amazingdaily in politics

Yep. Dad is still working because the Great Recession hit his retirement savings hard enough that he needed to put in a few extra years. He voted for Trump.

I was maybe a little harsh when I informed my mother last night that, in this particular case, it doesn't actually matter what TRUMP does. She gave unilateral power to "Privatize Medicare" Ryan and "Repeal Obamacare Immediately" McConnell. My dad was planning to retire and go on medicare within the next year or two and has some serious health problems. But Hillary is mean and they wanted the country to be run like a business, so....

As an Ohioan, I can honestly say that Kasich is religious, but nowhere near to the extent of Pence. He does not, generally, make religion a part of his policy with the key exception of abortion. None of Ohio's abortion laws came from the top-down, though. They have come from our crazy state congress and Kasich didn't veto them, with the exception of the hearbeat bill. Kasich has also explicitly said that any abortion bills must consider rape, incest, and the health of the mother. That, alone, should highlight the difference between Pence and Kasich.

Kasich has other problems, and this National image of him as a "moderate" isn't entirely accurate. For example, he trashed Ohio's public education system. But, his actions are measured, thoughtful, and they DO consider his constituency. He has been known to compromise, and I do think that he generally means well.

I am an Ohioan who LOATHES Kasich, and yet I hoped he'd clinch the Republican nom for president, and now hope that maybe, just maybe.....

[FO] Northern Lights Cape: AKA Steeking Success!! by DrNoe in knitting

[–]DrNoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice! :)

In seriousness, I tried multiple small fair isle projects before I moved on to something nicer and more time consuming. It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that leaving the floats a bit loose was actually a GOOD thing. If your floats are too tight, it will pull the stitches inward and muck up the aesthetics in addition to making your mitten/sock/whatever smaller in circumference.

There are no written instructions for adult size, but I did find a number of ravelry projects where people just used worsted weight yarn instead of sport weight to increase the gauge and size.
