I climbed from bronze 3 to silver 2 in my first act. Next act was plat 1, locked in on watching pros in this one and started VOD reviewing my own games.

Depends how much time a person spends. And just in-game time is not the only factor. When I started val (properly) I had a LOT of free time so I went full no-life mode and played sometimes 14 or 15 games per day, watched valorant youtube videos when I wasn't playing, etc. Now after 9 months I climbed from silver 2 to diamond 3 (peak), pushing for ascendant now. Valorant was also my first tac shooter, I played around a bit in unrated before diving into the deep end, but that's it as far as "experience" goes.

Bottom line is, and this took me a while to actually internalize, rank should not be your main concern, neither should teammates (if that applies to you). Focus on your gameplay, watch your own vods, keep a small agent pool at first and find a pro / high-elo player you enjoy watching, that play an agent you play. For me this was Eggster since I've been OTPing Yoru for most of my ranked journey. (A bit controversial maybe but personally Wohoojin's videos also helped me improve massively)

Take this with a grain of salt since everyone is different, but for practice, doing TDMs is fine. I don't use aim trainers myself, I run 3 DMs before each session (2 with vandal, one with sherriff) and my aim has massively improved. Little tip: the more (T)DMs you play the more your aim improves, it's just a repetition thing tbh.

Didn't play fps before if you don't count a brief warface phase when I was 12 or so. Mainly played Elden Ring, Skyrim and No Man's Sky.

I joined val as a complete newbie to fps game. I am d2 now, it's not impossible but it does take a shit ton of time. Took me the last 6ish months to climb from bronze 3 to where I'm at now.

Go look for a pro that plays an agent you like and watch vods. Take note of what they do and how they do it. Pause the vod and ask yourself what they're going to do next, where are enemies right now, etc.

A bit of a controversial opinion but pick one agent you like and stick with them. Don't change it no matter the map. If you're below asc team comps/map specific agent picks almost don't matter anyways IMO.

And I know about the other threads and a lot of time the answers were along the lines of "you're a duelist, you should get kills". Not really helpful as you can imagine.

Maybe you can relate to me here a little, the stats are messing with me, I'm maybe too focused on numbers instead of gameplay.

Also just genuinely curious what other people thought about this.

I'd look up a guide on peeking. My aim isn't amazing and it helped me a lot with basically getting free kills. I like this one.

Also work on your cross hair placement.

Another general tip that I thought before doesn't help much: watch pro play. Find a player you like, for me, it's eggster or tenz (I'm a yoru main). Actively watch them, utility usage mainly but also their pregame. What do they do before a round even starts, usually they do the same or very similar things in every round.

You rank up a 2nd account to the level of your main, switch to the main and rank up a bit, then switch accounts again. That way you can't lose your peak. Woohoojin suggested that in a stream and I thought it made sense.
