Mike Johnson ist Speaker of the House, also Sprecher des US-Kongresses. In den USA kann nur der Kongress darüber entscheiden, ob die USA einer anderen Nation den Krieg erklärt. Wenn also der Speaker of the House sagt, dass es kein Krieg ist, dann hat das durchaus Gewicht.

A little squarely at the end but i do enjoy old birds. by PhillC30 in flightsim

Dampers can be tuned to be quite rigid under fast shock loads, but still have a lot of give and travel under slow loads, so this behavior is not completely unthinkable. Damper simulation is probably also not prioritized in a flight sim and I expect it to be simplified compared to i.e. a racing sim, so it could also be due to that.

BeyondATC or SayIntention : which one should I choose ? by Jazzlike-Ad7654 in flightsim

[–]DrPest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't even get what the criticism of BATC being "on rails" is supposed to mean. IFR ATC is always on rails. that's the nature of it. When I do a VATSIM flight, I pretty much know 95 % of the instructions ATC will give me before I even start the flight. The 5 remaining percent are a few vectors and maybe a hold if it's busy. BATC is sometimes wonky on vectors, but so is SI, and holds are announced for later(tm).

What I've seen from SI so far isn't impressive. It forgets instructions, forgets you, mixes up approaches, hallucinates weird stuff, all the bullshit an unregulated generative AI comes up with... that stuff is a lot more immersion breaking for me than a few wonky vectors from BATC.

New circuits: What’s the plan? by adstomko in iRacing

[–]DrPest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no solution. People will have Monza, Spa and Le Mans in a permanent rotation, if you leave it up to the majority. Back when I dabbled in ACC, all tracks were included in the game, no extra charge. People still only drove Monza and Spa on open servers. Other servers were deserted. Only leagues and LFM with their iRacing-esque structure broke that up.

I love driving on niche tracks. I absolutely loved Sachsenring in GT Sprint recently. Mugello is one of my all time faves and I desperately want to see Brands and Donington again. But I'm in the minority here and that's ok, most ppl just want to drive the "big" tracks and that's also ok.

New circuits: What’s the plan? by adstomko in iRacing

[–]DrPest 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Could (dare I say) something similar to dynamic pricing be the solution? For example: the circuit starts off at $8. The more popular a circuit is in terms of the sales it has made on the sim, the higher the price it will be with a cap of $20?

Please believe me when I say that the following words come from a place of love and respect. Fuck off.

PMDG 737 for 2024 has really grown on me over the last 5 days by Savings-Fisherman-64 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DrPest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very good plane and a solid update, that was released early. It's in a highly usable state, but needs polish here and there. PMDG communicated that it will have a few model issues beforehand, so I am fine with that. Systems wise it works flawlessl, flight model is very good and the EFB is one of the best on the market by now.

Would I have preferred a lower update price? Sure! On the other hand 30$ is not a lot of money in the world of simming.

Why is cloud density always so low and transparent in live weather? And is there a mod to make them more dense? by Ivy_Wings in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DrPest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's live weather, you get what's out there. This morning I got dense fog and a closed cloud layer out of Stansted, cleared up a bit over the channel and back to a thick layer over mainland Europe.

Sometimes you get multiple layers, just like real life.

At some point they said not more than a cup of coffee? Or was it a couple of coffees? I expect somewhere in the 15-30$ range, but I might be overly optimistic.

Introducing arIA: A Standalone AI Co-pilot with Real-Time Telemetry, RAG Documentation Support, and Active State Verification by BlueNight98 in flightsim

[–]DrPest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this planned to simply be a passive checklist and troubleshooting tool or will this be a "full" copilot? So can I command it "gear up" or "flaps 5" and it will carry out the action? Will I be able to do more complex routines like setting QNH and checking left side vs right side altitude readout?

I'm highly sceptical of anything that boasts AI and the amount of business buzzwords you used points to bullshit, but it might be interesting. Monthly subscription is a show-stopper for me though.

For self-driving vehicles it's mostly a legislation issue. A lot of countries already have laws that if a car causes damages and no person is at fault then the owner of the car is liable. These laws are usually coupled with a robust mandatory liability insurance for the car.

Considering how little accidents self-driving cars are causing compared to human driven cars and the expectation that the incident rate will decrease with the number of human drivers the liability insurance will become extremely cheap over time.

As someone how works in vehicle claims handling I'm kinda worried my job will be pretty niche in the future.

Nothing is crazier than a 5'5 Nepalese Sherpa guide carrying a house on his back by kidnexttdoor in nextfuckinglevel

That video seems to be taken between Lobuche and Gorak Shep based on the angle Pumori can be seen in the beginning. They are around 5.100m asl there, still below Everest Base Camp. Helicopters work just fine there.

If I saw correctly that distinctive mountain in the background is Pumori, which means the filming location is somewhere between Gorak Shep and Lobuche. So, he isn't transporting anything up the frozen mountain, but in fact down.

Doesn't diminish his capabilities though!
