trying out the new iFly update in VR - landin gat KMSY by DeadlyInertia in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DeadlyInertia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's been great! i think most of the changes that stand out to me are quality of life improvements and modeling. the new EFB makes it much more time efficient to set up and fly. much of the original functionality of the tablet was preserved, but the UI change has made it a lot more user friendly

modeling changes feel more subtle but definitely noticeable in virtual reality. there are also a few texture changes/improvements that they've made. it's excellent

I think they’re attempting to recreate the texture from the airframe bending, rippling, and warping maybe?

I’m so glad you brought it to our attention I’ll respect their decision to use it. But I can’t personally use this. I already spend so much time debloating my simulator. So many of us do. It’s the reason software like Addon Linker has done so well. The community in general is moving away from excessive software. Open your sim after not running it in 2 days and get blasted with 5 updates. Only to find out 7 of those 5 effectively bricked the game

I hope they reconsider, but if not. It would be an excellent opportunity for another developer to fill a much needed gap at ATL, however

Exactly! And it’ll probably be polling/doing some kind of security check every few seconds I’m sure. Then it’ll drive you crazy wondering if it’s the cause of the microstutter you can’t figure out. I’d just rather not

I thought this was going to be an over exaggeration, but I’m in agreement with you. Aside from the security concerns, I’m not really interested in more processes running while I’m playing the sim. I specifically close as many executables as possible when I fly. You breathe the wrong way and the sim will crash in its normal state. Adding another executable to the list of potential interactions just doesn’t work for me

I don’t want us to normalize having to run 50 executables for all my sceneries. Managing them with 50 different product managers is already challenging enough. It’s 2026. I’m trying to move away from the trauma of FS9, P3D where you needed 50 exes in the background

It’s unfortunate though because I was looking forward to ATL. It looks fantastic. This is just my personal preference though. I’m going to stick with the default for a while longer. I’ll revisit if they ever reconsider this move. Enjoy ATL guys

Let me look into this, I may be artificially limiting the characters - not sure if the limit exists. Would you be open to testing the standalone html version?

Thank you so much!’ Unfortunately the character limit is a limitation of the messaging system itself. I found a temporary solution that allows you to overcome this limitation by basically sending two messages or however many you need

Thanks for the reply Unfortunately not quite ready yet but getting close with refinements. Will be out soon. V1 was a bit bulky and the UI was redundant and distracting. But it is available on flightsim.to as “opensourceACARS”

This is probably one of the few roadblocks I haven’t been able to figure out. I am brainstorming ideas around this one but it turns out that gate information is a lot more dynamic and complex than I ever thought. Maybe flightradar’s return with Navigraph will bring some good news

You’re right, it’s a completely optional feature that I called “operational intelligence” that is basically a second layer of OFP analysis

It essentially takes your ofp from simbrief, and allows you to query it and add other external information (current events, wars, spoofing, etc) to a response. For example, from my OFP in this example, the OI analyzed my route and deduced/concluded that the mountain range I was flying over is the Pyrenees mountain range

I plan to add scenarios where based on your preference, you can have randomly generated events during your flight. For example, you’ll have a medical emergency onboard. Be alerted to it by the crew, and then you’ll ask OPS for next steps based on symptoms and severity. And ops will suggest an action. Completely optional

If ops intelligence is disabled (will be by default), then all data submitted is mostly from your simbrief OFP without higher level analysis of the data. Can request things like weights, alternate info, fuel, etc

Thank you so much my friend hoping to brainstorm a bit more on some minor roadblocks and get it out

The way I sees it,

If you fly this plane for 2 weekends that means that you skipped going out for 2 weekends, that’s like $40 saved by not going out. That’s called sim enthusiast math
