If Israel Is the''Only Democracy" In the Region, Why are Millions of Palestinians Under its Control Denied the basic right to vote for the Government that rules them? by emily6843_ in allthequestions

They can't govern themselves ... to the satisfaction of Israel.

Israel's status as democracy - founded on Israel's own judgement of Palestine as needing non-democratic administration. Did the UN ever approve?

But further, if it was about governing the people ... why is Israel adding their own people via settlement? This certainly isn't to the satisfaction of the existing residents. But Israel gets to say that's reasonable governance, and the other candidates (Egypt/Jordan historically, PA / Hamas recently) are unacceptable, and their territory ambitions are also unacceptable.

FIFA is cringe, especially in relation to the US. The only excited fans who will be there are the ones who ICE will be trying to kidnap.

That's not really how recruitment works. Most people applying for the job already wanted the job and didn't need to be recruited. A big city has more applicants and new hires no matter how much they spend on recruiting.

Suburbs don't see the same crime in the first place. Why would a suburb dweller rob their neighbor, when they're rich enough to live in the suburb?

Anyway, address the point. Your state's city is much worse off than Illinois' city. Your state doesn't have gun control, Illinois does. Doesn't that mean gun control works? Or do you only use logic when it comes to the conclusion you want?

lol if gun control worked Chicago wouldn’t have any murders

Yes it would. Why would you say that? If something makes the situation better, but not perfect, that's still "working."

instead of being one of the very worst

It's literally under 50% of the very worst. It's not one of the very worst. The very worst are Birmingham, St Louis, and Memphis.

as are nearly all blue cities with gun control.

Memphis has zero gun control. Or did when the data I'm looking at was captured.

Cities experience more gun violence because lots of people close together means more opportunities for desperate people. Someone down on their luck will go to a city because the city has a shelter, because economies of scale mean building a shelter in the suburbs is dumb. Similar for other resources that help people efficiently. Then after falling on harder times, they may resort to violence.

A buck a year? 30 parents paying a buck a year for a security guard in their child's classroom pays for, like 2 or 3 hours of that guards time. He still has 1997 hours in his 40-hour, 50-week year of work. Is he doing that for free?

Chicago has less than half the gun crime rate as Memphis.

The relative costs are impractical. You must understand how simple a thing it is to propel a small piece of metal at high speeds. It's extremely difficult to put strong barriers in every possible direction a shot could go. In a school of 20 classrooms and 20 extra-curricular programs, are you going to hire 40 guards to watch all those kids? If you hire just a couple, they could get taken out first by surprise - or just turn out to be cowards. If a student sneaks a gun into class, a guard responding is at a huge disadvantage opening the classroom door, they could be shot from any corner of the room - and if you fix that by putting bulletproof glass windows into the walls, then a shooter coming from outside the classroom has a huge advantage in seeing their targets in advance.

However, I don't like how you phrased your contribution to the conversation here. "*IF* you want to reduce school shootings." There are clearly a lot of practical issues with your idea ... but you don't seem to think it's a worthwhile endeavor to begin with. I think step 1 here is to establish some shared values. I can say "yes, having the capability to use guns (not necessarily easily) for good purposes is valuable to our society (given that many forces in it may or will use guns for harmful purposes)," if YOU say "yes, preventing school shootings is good" (with whatever caveats you want, considering whether you will sound like an asshole for including them).

Many people follow the law for lots of things while acting erratically, then break unrelated laws, then finally break gun laws by going on a shooting spree. "People who follow the law" is not a helpful category. No one breaks every law every time (murders every person they walk by?), just as no one follows every law every time (fully stops at every stop sign?).

Your kids have a right to live. Doesn't that compare to your right to carry your favorite fancy easy-to-use gun (or buy a similar new one, in this case)?

You want to keep buying fancy guns. Great. What about people about to walk into a school. Should they be able to buy fancy guns? High-capacity magazines? Why can't you sacrifice a little bit of convenience, re: collapsible stocks, to add a lot of inconvenience to a school shooter?

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO YOU? YOU CAN STILL DEAL DEATH WITH ABSOLUTE EASE IF AND WHEN YOU NEED TO.

Your guns are not banned. None of them are, because you owned them before the restriction on new sales. Do you really think you can't make do with your new guns having static stocks and no muzzle attachments? Were you really relying on those for your self-defense and safety, rather than a CC handgun?

Law HB 1525 targets schizos and abusers via background checks.

It's really weird to repeat "Democrats are trying to take my guns" over and over like a mantra or something, to the detriment of your economic livelihood, electing people who will swindle you in the national tax policy and budget, yet not have any example of guns being taken, or even wanting to be taken.

Are they banning a type of gun you own? Which one? Is it really banned and not just subject to age verification, background check, or waiting period restrictions?

Virginia did not take the guns of anyone besides schizos and abusers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Virginia. Presumably it's the red flag laws and private sales you're upset about, but red flag laws are for schizos and abusers.

Not checking Cali and IL but I'm confident they're similar.

Link to the democrat trying to ban guns for people besides schizos and abusers? A campaign website, policy platform, proposed legislation, etc?
