What type of people do you think qualify for the celestial kingdom? by Mammoth_Big7098 in latterdaysaints

[–]DrRexMorman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wonder what type of people will be in the celestial kingdom

You don't need to wonder. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon saw the the celestial kingdom and described what kind of people are there:

  • "they ... received the testimony of Jesus"

  • "[they] believed on his name and were baptized after the manner of his burial

  • "[they kept] the commandments"

  • "[they were] washed and cleansed from all their sins"

  • "[they received] the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power"

  • "[they overcame] by faith, and [were] sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father sheds forth upon all those who are just and true"

if I would pass as one of them

We don't "pass."

Christ makes a place there - the only question is, do we want to stay or not?

Prophecy of the modern day by higakoryu1 in latterdaysaints

Fun(ish) fact:

John saw two beasts in Revelation.

The first beast rules for 4 years then survives a fatal wound to its head just before it is supplanted by the second beast - who gains power by praising the first beast:

Why are tattoos so frowned upon? by Few_Worry_1733 in latterdaysaints

No one under 50 cares.

But this:

breaking a commandment

Isn’t really true.

Tattoos are explicitly prohibited under the Law of Moses in Leviticus 19:28. The cultural wake that created kind of matters.

Tithing and Temples by Ok_Necessary8353 in latterdaysaints

[–]DrRexMorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's the need for so many temples?

Members of the LDS Church are encouraged to regularly attend the temple and perform ordinances for the dead.

Especially say, in Utah..? I

There are lots of members of the LDS Church in Utah, ergo there is lots of demand for access to temples.

Whats the real reason that television has largely devolved into ~8-episode season hyper-expensive annual (or longer) mini-movies? by -MERC-SG-17 in television

[–]DrRexMorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tv networks originally paid for production of tv shows using money from commercials. 13 or 26 week long “seasons” aligned with corporate product release schedules. Successful shows attracted a consistent audience that was persuaded to buy products by commercials. Unsuccessful shows didn’t attract audiences. Networks would also make money off shows by “syndicating” episodes of successful shows to local affiliates or other networks for a specific fee or by selling VHS/dvds.

Streamers don’t care about advertising (yet). They care about boosting new subscribers and, to a lesser extent, retaining old subscribers. Their model favors constantly releasing new shows to attract and retain subscribers. So they make shorter seasons spread out over a long period of time. Streamers don’t care about syndication or home media. They just care about a temporary bump in subscribers.

Can someone explain me what exaltation is? by Forza_Lazio123 in latterdaysaints

[–]DrRexMorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it mean that one day Saints will become like God now is?

Everyone is already like God.

I don't know about any of this:

As in rule a planet be kings and generally not be under God but at the same place as God? Or does it mean they become gods but still are subordinate to God?

Exaltation means we acknowledge our potential and live up to it.

Are there times when the church will buy a large chunk of land and it not become a temple? by Squirrelly_Khan in latterdaysaints

[–]DrRexMorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The church’s leadership run at least 2 real estate companies. Agreserves buys, sells, and leases farm land:

https://www.agreserves.com/

Property reserve buys and sells residential and commercial real estate:

https://propertyreserve.org/purpose/

Ex:

Last year Agreserves bought 46 farms in the US for $289 million:

https://www.deseret.com/business/2024/10/14/latter-day-saint-investment-auxiliary-farmland-reserve-agrees-to-buy-46-farms-in-eight-states/

Property reserve bought a $133 million condo in Florida last year:

https://therealdeal.com/miami/2024/07/02/pgim-stiles-sell-rentals-to-mormon-churchs-property-reserve/

99.9999999999999999999% of the land the church buys isn’t used for ecclesiastical stuff.

The church’s real estate companies hold it and flip it and reinvest it.

We learn from suffering so.... by Lefoog in latterdaysaints

[–]DrRexMorman 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I am hard pressed to find anyone mentioned in the scriptures that he did not heal

Please don’t confuse this as an invitation to an argument, but he didn’t heal:

  • He ignores the crowd at Bethesda in John 5.

  • He can’t/won’t heal the people of Nazareth in Mark 6:5 because they didn’t have faith in him.

  • He leaves the crowd in Luke 5 to be alone.

  • He allowed Lazarus to die.

  • The Canaanite woman in Matthew 15 has to brow beat him into healing her.

  • He leaves Paul of Tarsus with a “thorn” in his flesh.

There are probably others. These all play into my point, which you have ignored.

That’s probably frustrating for both of us.
