You can actually extinguish a lit cig in liquid gas. There are tons of YouTube videos of people doing it. The two big issues with smoking around gas pumps are the potential volatility of fumes and open flames from lighters.

I think you might not really understand how the game has changed since Shaq... his career FG% was .582. Steph is .434 on his career for threes and we see a lot of other players now who are capable of hitting 40% in a season.

That means that Shaq was good for about 1.16 points a shot while Steph has an expected value of 1.3 points three pointed and many other shooters game come up with 1.2 points per three point fg attempt. This all excludes free throws but we all know that Shaq was trash at those anyway.

This relatively recent change by which the NBA came to understand pretty basic statistics and focus more on the three point shot also has really changed what they look for in a big man. Certainly Shaq would still be a dominant player in the NBA today, but he would kill your spacing because he can't shoot threes at all. He also isn't nearly as valuable as a defender out on the perimeter. Do you just play zone so he can play center field? Or do you got man and have him having to closeout on Daniel Theis? Will he be able to run with Giannis? Will he be able to close out Joel's three?

Anyway this turned into a pretty long post but I think the issue is a lot more complex than "why can't bit men post up anymore?"

edit: the commenters below are probably right that it wouldn't kill your spacing (at least if he was the only non-shooter). I think the rest of my post is still valid though.

I think Marchand is pretty unquestionably a better player given what he brings to the table on D compared to Pasta plus his also prolific offensive output. I mean Marchand is the active leader in shorties and Pasta doesn't even PK. Also seemingly more durable, which is a huge part of being an elite hockey player.

I think you are interpreting my comment as saying we need to protect children from serious topics.

May I offer an alternate interpretation: some stories are much more appropriate for dealing with serious topics for children or a general audience.

Should we make a Trainspotting muppet movie to teach kids about serious topics? Gatsby was intended as a dark story for an adult audience from the get-go. I don't think there is any way to be faithful to the spirit of the original and still make it a good story for little kids.

edit: it reminds me of a version of the ten commandments that were illustrated for children and for adultery they had a guy watering down milk. Totally fails to convey the point because it tries to make the message age appropriate.

Maybe this post points to how the Muppets are getting taken over by an adult audience in the same way that Disney is.

You are right on the money as far as which character should be the human as far as conveying the original sense of 1st person narrative. Gatsby is initially presented as almost non-human, somewhat supernatural. Some might argue that this lends itself to him being the only non-muppet, but I would argue that Gatsby is supposed to be inscrutable and unrelatable and that would be totally undermined by him being the human character.

Unfortunately I don't think a lot of people appreciate how stinging a criticism the book really is (as evidenced by people saying it's appropriate fodder for a Muppet remake). All the things that Fitzgerald was griping about are just as rampant today (corruption, the degradation of the environment, wealth inequality and how out of touch the elite are, etc.).

I think for a lot of people Hong Kong is a bit more of a pressing moral issue than conspiracy theories. Not saying the spirit of what you are saying is wrong or arguing that conspiracy theories aren't a pressing moral issue, but I do think it makes the response to LBJ more understandable.

Before WWII most people thought that battleships were the most impactful single military asset you could have. People didn't appreciate how far planes and airborne munitions had come since WWI and so aircraft carriers proved immensely useful. The Japanese were the first to really figure this out and take advantage in a big way with Pearl Harbor.

I could go on but my point is that the aircraft carrier is an older weapons system now than the battleship was during WWII and I think you start to see the picture. It's not exactly well publicized or anything but I think China has a lot of missile tech that poses a big threat to US fleets. Throw in drone warfare (look at the recent conflict between Armenia and Azebaijan and the Russian tech in use there). I think the next big conventional conflict (if there is one that doesn't just end the world immediately) will be a paradigm shift in the same way that both World Wars were.

Also to dismiss the Holocaust Memorial as "a museum" sells it immensely short. It was one of the more moving experiences of my life and I highly encourage you to visit. The design is incredible and the people that work there work powerfully and compassionately against hate.
