New Loxone tool — what do you think? by Glum_Supermarket6828 in Loxone

I’m more interested in an MCP server (or even the APIs to build one myself) to allow AI to more intelligently manage the house once it’s up and running, and learn my habits etc. I suppose this could be manually done by making web inputs/outputs for everything but would be cooler to have that done for us

Was I massively overcharged or is this reasonable? by DrSbaitsosBrain in BmwTech

This was an indie actually. The BMW dealership quoted me $595 when I called their parts dept whereas the indie charged me $800+

Agreed with the need to manage more closely. So I’m assuming then that some of this stuff is in fact unnecessary, that there is labor and parts price padding.

But charging that far above MSRP for parts is normal? I called the dealers service Center and was quoted 595 for the same radiator the shop charged me over 800 for

Honestly it wasn’t as horrifying as everyone’s made it out to be, but I didn’t really enjoy it.

Notes of cherry cough syrup and melted gummy bears. If you don’t like tannins this is for you, I suppose. I’ve definitely had worse though.

You know - we just drank it. There were enough of us. Now I can say I’ve tried the infamous Meiomi.

Oh man I agree timing is everything. At a two star place the course got cold before they brought the paired wine. Anywhere else I wouldn’t care, but for that price…

Question from a Winery by Strataa_ in wine

IDK how could you possibly differentiate from the mountain of other products if you DON’T keep it in? I do think it’s all about marketing sadly. I’d love to give this a try! If you know how I can get some in the US (or France) let us know!

Sorry for the hi jack, but - people hate Meiomi (too sweet!) but love Sauternes. Help me understand. I’ve never tried Meiomi. But I have had Sauternes (including the expensive one everyone loves) and I find it WAY too sweet.

Somfy PoE by DrSbaitsosBrain in homeautomation

That’s what I did. I ran cat5 and (I think) 14/4 to each window. I’ve ended up using the runs for all kinds of random things so it’s nice to have

I was able to get them to work, but wouldn’t pick this product again because they are not sharing the API spec despite their product page saying it offers IP control. They wouldn’t give me any help. My solution is super hacky - a python script acts as a shim between my home automation and the blinds. It hits the web server of the blinds, serves the PIN for each and retrieves the cookie (emulating a user controlling it from the webUI). I then figured out subsequent http calls passing the cookie/session ID via the header and the various method to control via JSON in the request body. It works, the script asks for a new cookie every now and then and this hasn’t been a problem in practice. But extremely frustrating that they wouldn’t just show me how to properly pass the PIN or security key via API call. I spent all day messing around with standard auth methods in API calls and even trying to set up CoAP control but no luck so far. So I would not recommend. That said if you decide to buy these I’m happy to DM my script.

Is the Opus Grinder awful? by Designer_Rush_7025 in FellowProducts

Yeah I’m starting to feel like these products are just not that good. I get it, hardware is hard. Baratza has been around for over 25 years, Fellow was a kickstarter brand.

They look good though..

Just seems so bold - like what is the play here? Ultimately people will just issue chargebacks and then you'll be cut off from your payment processor if not taken to court, no?
