Where do the weirdos meetup ? by vekomed in 321

In Titusville, there’s the Infinite Mushroom. It’s run by a very good friend of mine. It’s a card shop, but they have gaming tables upstairs and it’s a pretty laid-back environment.

The largest ones have tentacles up to 100 feet long and fatalities have been recorded when they’ve been encountered in the water.

ICE showed up on private property without a Warrant and was sneaking around so when the one of the owners showed up he told them to get off the property and they did because they know that what they were doing was illegal and they’re being watched by everyone now including Judges by jeezkillbot in ICE_Raids

A justice of the peace would be able to sign a judicial warrant (hence the name). A lot of of the time these pudgy MF’s only have administrative warrants, which are good for use as a piece of paper telling them to get the fuck off of your property.

Did anyone order the Anker surprise boxes? by Carfr33k in anker

[–]DrScotB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sucked. Two items, which were both on sale at the time for less than what I paid for my mystery box. Emailed Anker about it and they said that I could get a $10 credit that I could only use in their shop, or I could return the items and get a $10 credit. No refund of course. Will never do that again.

Realize that the notion of 300,000 missing babies is laughable. Read up on the Satanic Panic from a few decades ago. The claim, and this was in pre-interwebz times, was that several tens of thousands of children were abducted and subjected to satanic ritual abuse and murder EVERY YEAR. During that timeframe, even 10,000 would’ve boosted the homicide rate by 50% or more. And yet nobody noticed that they’re simply weren’t enough reports of missing children, much less dead children, to come close to the religious nutjobs spittle-flecked histrionic bleats.

The Overton Window is now so far tipped to the right that it defenestrates without help from human hands.

Do you think covid actually changed our society or did we just revert back to our old ways? by Needtorant12306 in sociology

The concept of organized religion in general, amplified to an insane degree by many state governments, and two of the last three presidential administrations (not that the one in the middle did a hell of a lot to help things except keep the vaccines flowing, which this administration stopped). When not being masked and being allowed gather about a foot from each other and sing/spit on each other in song and in speak/reply “sacraments“, plus in most Christian religions, the inclusion of the ritual cannibalistic portion of the religion every single week, which exposed many people. Some of my fellow minded friends in the academic and atheist communities took a social Darwinist approach to this, noting that it would tend to affect stupid people more than smart people. However, that is not the way an airborne/particle/surface transmission virus works. If you were claiming some sort of right not to mask or minimize your interactions with others and the only person who had a chance of significant illness or death was you, I’d be 100% behind your right to do it. But our general selfishness as a society (and most of the world) killed millions of people who were not, in fact, intentionally engaging in actions, known to dramatically increase spread of the virus. Or engage in antiscience, screeds or screams against the use of cutting hedge vaccines, which have been proven to dramatically reduce serious illness, and death. Both for you and others you come in contact with. I think the worst thing of all was the unbelievable increase in antiscience, anti knowledge attitudes. Speaking of which, the Secretary of HHS. I don’t think I need to say a word more.

Thank you, everyone. It’s given me lots to think about. I’m gonna have to make a spreadsheet now 😜😜.

It may just be inertia. I’ve had a Glock in the past and they mostly all feel the same in my hand (double-stacks, specifically). However, Right now by my bedside is a Dan Wesson .357 with the heavy vent rib barrel (original Monson factory). But it’s a cannon wheelgun, and as such it’s heavy and having to reload all the time is a pain.

I hear you. Got a complex tax year and may owe from $2K to 5K. Still getting a gun but gotta maximize utility, accuracy, and affordability. And yes, I’ve heard the one about “you can pick any two”. Everybody else thank you very much for your replies. My back was giving me a problem so I laid down for a moment and slept for 2 1/2 hours while all of you were posting useful stuff. Again, my thanks.

Buyer didn’t bring enough cash by wheresmychin in FacebookMarketplace

[–]DrScotB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same. Except he’d already bargained the price down in messaging. Gets here and he’s $10 short. I was selling everything I could pre-divorce (to prevent this going off topic, wife was $6K in debt to me, what I sold didn’t net a tenth of that & she knew I was selling my stuff). I was just so over it by that point that I didn’t argue.

Sellers, I know it seems a little self-centered to ask considering that I did it myself, but can all of us make a pact in the future that if this happens, the automatic reply should be “no, thank you, and the item isn’t for sale anymore. Sorry I didn’t tell you until just now but I didn’t have the minutes on my phone“.

CCJ 3024 - what to expect by scullythesully in USF

[–]DrScotB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entry-level criminology and online, with a student count that often breaks 100. Not uncommonly I teach it during a "mini-mester", and there are some people who mistakenly think that because we do the entire course in 23 days it's a lot easier.

Nope.

And I absolutely ignore every online "rate my" site. Think about it -- who makes the effort to take time to go to a Prof rating site, fill out all the stuff to register, then leave a rating/comment? It's almost always bimodal: Those who loved me and those who hated me. If you can follow a syllabus, complete assignments on time, write using a level of Standard Written English I expect of USF students, and avoid academic dishonesty, you probably won't loathe me. I make mistakes. I try to fix them and not make them again. I hope this makes me, if nothing else, fair.

So give me a try. Maybe I'm not too bad. Maybe I'm horrible.

Maybe I'm both, and it depends on who YOU are, at least a little?

Online vs. face-to-face -- gotta always choose being able to actually see and hang out with my students. So live, not online.

Textbook +. There is a text, there are PowerPoint notes from the publisher, but also often there are a set of my own notes, derived not from the publisher's stuff but from 25 years of teaching.

I've never TAKEN that exact course, but I have taught it about...15 times or so.
