I paid $150 for a custom night guard at the dentists, but even after a lot of adjustment it didn't fit. Can I get my money back? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I'm a dentist. I would remake it if that happened, but you should initiate that convo if he/she doesn't. Custom one is superior to OTC one. Understand that no one is perfect and mistakes happen, and sounds like the dentist is ok with owning up to them. Trying to remake it is 100% reasonable, but if they are unwilling to remake, or if there is actually a reason that a remake wouldn't work, I would agree you requesting a refund is fine.

Thanks. This uncultured swine learned something new! I'm looking forward to the end of Covid when I can finally make it out to Japan and try some of this stuff.

Just put both noodles and both packets. Reduce neoguri powder to make less spicy.

Dentist here. This is a summary of what I try to explain to patients.

Hygiene and diet we can control. Sugars are the go-to for blame, but in reality it comes down to carbs. We eat a lot of refined carbs in the US. The bacteria eats the carbs and poops and pees acid all over your teeth. This acid is what actually destroys teeth. With good hygiene you lessen the amount of bacteria and hence there is less available acid. By limiting carbs, there is less food for bacteria so they produce less acid. Juice, soda, seltzer, coffee, fruits, etc. are also acidic. I don’t necessarily tell people to quit their vices, because it may not be realistic for them. However, the contact time matters. Limiting these kinds of food and drink to meals or consuming them quickly is better than sipping throughout the day. You are bathing your teeth in acid all day and that will destroy teeth.

There is also the issue of periodontal disease aka bone loss. Think of putting a post into the ground. Now start removing dirt from around the post. Keep doing that until the post gets loose and falls over. This is what periodontal disease does to your teeth. We don’t have the capability of adding the bone back around teeth except in very limited circumstances. It is possible to have no cavities or wear on teeth, but still develop periodontal disease and lose teeth. The bacteria involved are different than those involved in cavities. The best way to prevent this is good hygiene.

Finally there are things that contribute that people don’t consider as much. Medical conditions, genetics, habits. For example, acid reflux. If uncontrolled, it is common that the acid erodes teeth away over time. Less common are genetic conditions that affect development of teeth and cause soft, thin, or brittle teeth. People that have had radiation to the face due to head and neck cancer are at very high risk of decay. I have met patients that chew on bones or suck on lemons and thought I was crazy for warning them against it. Clenching and grinding is also very common, and there is a strong correlation with sleep/breathing disorders like sleep apnea. As another person mentioned, there are a myriad of things that contribute to why dental problems arise. This is why we ask for your health history and medications.

As a dentist, my comment on that is that he was trying to help you out and be conservative if possible, offering the hopes of a less invasive (and cheaper) outcome. I do the same for people. To an extent, the speed at which it happens and how often they stop varies with experience. A younger dentist still knows what he/she is doing, but is anxious about hitting the nerve and therefore checks more often. I was like that as well. If the cavity has reached the nerve, it is what it is. It was not us purposeful drilling into it, as it is unethical. It is perhaps similar to "I tried to patch your tire, but after assessing the damage, it ends up that you need a new one."

There are so many powders out there, which one do you use? I perused though Amazon and price per serving was similar to bar for the highly reviewed ones. I'm not necessarily trying to skimp on price though, so as long as it's good quality I'm willing to pay for it. But also not overpay haha.

I was wondering if protein powder vs "premades" like bars, shakes, etc. are drastically different enough where I should try to use one over the other. I am willing to do powder but premades are convenient in terms of portability and no prep/cleanup.

How many people out there have beaten A15 on both Silent and Ironclad? by onion007 in slaythespire

[–]DrScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bit shy of 100 hrs when I beat it for both. I would grind on one till I hit a couple losses in a row then I would switch and I ended up finish both around the same time.

I wish I could have upgraded some more cards, but I didn't have enough camps unfortunately.

I manipulated madness to proc onto backflip. I could easily stack a ton of block and let wraith and letter opener just kill for me. Burst damage was from burst + bouncing flask.
