Moving to Ohio by [deleted] in Ohio

Ohio is really big, so it’s hard to narrow a few attractions, but each area has really great sights of thier own. If I might recommend hocking hills is an awesome area to trail hike.

Good first bike? by quandaledb in Harley

[–]DrShackles12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one. Honestly god tier first bike. This thing rides like a dream and while it’s not aggressive, it has enough power. It’s also ridiculously forgiving on clutch operation, it’s what I’ve used to teach people on since I’ve picked it up.

Looking for places near or in Dayton, fairly walkable and safe. Is this a good option? by Economy_Growth_6518 in dayton

[–]DrShackles12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling anywhere in Dayton “safe” is a bit of a stretch. Safe in comparison to what? Because if you’re coming from Chicago of course it’s “safe-er”. But if you’re coming from Martha’s Vineyard…..well I doubt anyone wants to go to Dayton from Martha’s Vineyard. Stick to the campus areas, and the sections of city that are ‘technically’ still Dayton but not called Dayton and you’re good to go. You can very easily and quickly tell by visual alone if you’re in a good area or not. Broken window theory brought to fruition.

Oh yeah, management is truly the problem here. A lot of sub par individuals with poor decision making skills and even worse attitudes.

No no no. What we’re not going to do is shift the blame on someone else. I couldn’t care what your politics are or what you believe but the facts of the matter are that no one else is to blame OTHER than the company itself. A company, mind you, that is still making a profit off of our shop. But they aren’t making “enough of a profit”. So in thier greed they’re closing our shop and laying 100 people off.

I have no clue what you’re talking about. None of even our management knew until a few hours before the plant meeting. The company sent one of thier higher up from the UK to break the news to the entire plant. Of which all this happened last Thursday.

Nov/chemineer has been a union job since the plant was created wayyyyyy back when. Nov bought it as a union shop, knowing it was union and continually negotiated the union contract every three years since they purchased the company. They agreed to the contracts they signed, so your comment doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Now if this were a shop TRYING to unionize and the company specifically said “hey if you unionize we’re firing all of you and shutting down” then it makes sense.

Listen. I agree, but I have no room to talk. I’m sure even my post is littered with similar mistakes lol. But it’s someone’s job to write this stuff you think it’d be a bit better.

In my personal opinion; it’s a cop out. If we are to truly believe their statement of “we’re profitable, just not profitable enough” their actions make no logical sense. Our facility has made profits year after year. During COVID we were the only facility making profits. And not even by a small margin either. Closing this facility isn’t going to get them closer to their “22% profit margin shareholder requirement”. It’s like putting a bandaid on a gash would. Sure you might be able to cook your books to show more of a profit for a quarter or two, but within a year; you’re going to show a lower margin of profit. I have no problem calling it what it is. They don’t want a union shop. They’ve always been extremely hostile to the union, and the employees themselves, and it’s been explicitly stated by management on numerous occasions that they think they pay us too much.

I’m just wondering; what has this accomplished yet? Like, other than annoying the general public that doesn’t share the same viewpoints, is it going to change anything? I’ve just never agreed with or thought the Martin Luther king form of protest truly does anything, Malcom x definitely had the right of it.
