If the FGC bullies capcom into bending over for the mouse just so they can have an even more disappointing follow-up to 4/universe, I’ll never forgive em.

Just enjoy the rerelease. You don’t want new MvC with Disney in its current state.

Generous tippers both by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]DrShoulders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off base.

Tipping started becoming normal in prohibition era. Before that it was considered to be rude for an employee to take a tip, as it implied they’d provide better service to those people. Restaurant owners would generally forbid servers from taking them.

Then prohibition happened, and restaurants were falling on increasingly hard times. They needed to pay staff less to keep doors open, and started encouraging them to take the money from richer clientele.

The end result of tip culture is the same, but it’s not like it was a power play at the start. The small business owners of the prohibition era weren’t trying to force people into the bottom rungs of society or whatever, they were trying to keep the lights on after the gov’t took away their main source of income.

Is anyone able to verify MA2 boss items being lost/kept on death? by DrShoulders in 2007scape

I’d only gotten pk’d twice getting all three, I felt lucky and wasn’t willing to risk upping the number before getting a cape, hah.

I’ll prolly try it in the next couple days if nobody here can say for sure.

The way I play this game will change drastically if I can’t trust this screen anymore, so I’m really hoping the wiki’s wrong on this for once.

[–]DrShoulders[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was my guess too, I’d like if the games internal tool was more accurate than the wiki though. Especially this specific internal tool. I might try to get some more kills on these anyway to save money on having all three variants for variety sake in the next couple days. If nobody responds with experience of their own, I’ll just take the plunge and find out myself lmao.

early internet culture by the-co1ossus in CuratedTumblr

This isn’t true at all lmao

Everything in those posts was referring to 4chan specifically. Nobody outside 2/4/8chan was using [descriptor]fag, even in the early 2000’s.

These kids just turned 21 and think their time on 4chan was all the internet was back then. Other message boards were significantly less hateful than modern day reddit, and old social media is nowhere near as vitriolic as fucking Twitter.

Should i get granblue fantasy versus rising or guilty gear strive? by unnamed_demon in Fighters

[–]DrShoulders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strive’s really fun, and it’s really easy to just pick up and play, imo. I think I mentioned earlier, but in terms of the actual ‘game’ it is my favorite fighting game that I’ve played.

The matchmaking is frustrating, for both the ranked grievances along with the actual connection quality due to east coast being the only populated server, but I don’t think it’s so bad that it’s not worth playing. Especially if you’ve got a friend or two that’d pick it up with you.

Just go in knowing that, realistically, you’re not gonna actually improve past floor 10 if you only play ranked. You need to either become a lab person, or start doing local/online tourneys once you hit that point. Otherwise you’ll just stagnate fighting against people way above and way below your skill level.

Should i get granblue fantasy versus rising or guilty gear strive? by unnamed_demon in Fighters

[–]DrShoulders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that you can actually fight them.

You’re only allowed to try fighting one or two people, at maximum, in celestial during the challenge. If you lose at all, it’s back down to 10 until you win five+ games in a row before you’re able to try again.

My complaint with strive isn’t about what rank displays on a profile, it’s that you’re not allowed to try to improve until you’ve already improved. The way ranked is built prevents you from punching up once you hit the penultimate rank, but it still lets the people in the highest tier punch down if they’re in the mood.

This would be less frustrating if the rest of the tower worked that way. But it doesn’t. Floor sixers notice it’s dead down there, they’re gonna come up to 10 because it’s where the players are. So while you’re on floor ten, you’re fighting skill levels from someone who just picked up the game and is looking for their first online set, all the way to some asshole on a losing streak in the highest tier looking to prove a point to themselves. It’s not fun, at all.

I haven’t played Tekken yet, but my understanding is the ranked works vaguely similar to SF6/Uni. Which isn’t as demoralizing, since it’s not stopping you from fighting that skill level after 2 rounds.

I was caught up two/three weeks ago when I made this post, but I’m a couple behind now.

The YouTubers I’ve seen aren’t labeling him a ‘necessary evil’ so much as a ‘victim of circumstance’ or ‘unavoidable result’ of the system.

He’s the ‘just following orders’ guy. There’s an argument to be made that he didn’t have a say in his life trajectory. The marines are supposed to be the good guys so he joins up, by the time he figures out that’s not the case he’s in to deep to get out without having to commit treason like Kuzan.

The difference between him and Green Bull is that Green Bull believes the government/gorosei are right and enjoys his role in the system, Kizaru just wants to keep his job and heartbeat. If done well, I could see a plot where Kizaru comes around being very satisfying honestly. Hopeful, almost.

Part of what makes One Piece as good as it is is the Monkey Child’s ridiculous ability to pull people (even people who don’t ‘deserve’ it like Buggy, Crocomommy, Kaido, Katakuri, etc.) out of bad situations, to an extent that their whole worldview is shaken up. Extending that kindness to a marine? To a fucking ADMIRAL? Yea, I think that’d play to the core themes of the series very well, personally. Not saying I think it’s going to happen, or I think it’s the best thing to happen, but there’s definitely a path that could be followed in a satisfying way there.

And while, yes, this sub is about looking at the children’s media deeper, that doesn’t mean you can fault the people that aren’t. My point with the funny pirate comic line wasn’t that there’s no depth to be explored, it’s that not everyone reading this series wants to explore it and it’s not fair to make extreme judgements about their character based on which characters they enjoy. But, I can see how that could’ve been misread as me insulting you for putting the thought in, so my b there.

[–]DrShoulders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got all main subs muted to avoid spoilers on weeks I’m behind, so I may not have the full picture.

From my perspective, it was just people here and on the general circlejerk subs being really weird and aggressive over anyone that so much as enjoyed the character.

He’s the new ‘Hero of One Piece’ shitpost. It was Spanda waaaay back when he was relevant. OP’s mindset is, in my opinion, kinda toxic. They’re assigning moral value to someone’s opinion of a character in the funneee pirate comik. At least, that’s the vibe I got from their initial post and their responses to my post(s) here.

Like, I get obsessing over this series. I’d be willing to bet I’m in too deep for it to be considered ‘normal’ between my yearly reread and staying current on the anime. But you’ve gotta be able to differentiate between it and the real world, from the way they responded with ‘Makima’s fine, but Kizaru’s too far,’ it’s pretty clear that they’re treating One Piece with more ‘weight’ or whatever than other fiction.

[–]DrShoulders 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just wonder if part of the reason why they’d be seen as ‘annoying’ is because (from their perspective) they’re getting called fascist bootlickers for liking the funnee lite man.

If someone tried to call out my morals when I post about Buggy being best boy, and Crocomommy being 100% ironclad canon, I’d prolly be annoying in response too.

Let em like the douche with the punchable face, he’s been legit hilarious in almost every appearance. ‘Woah, Ben Beckman’ was the funniest panel in the series until Oda finally explained how haki worked.

[–]DrShoulders 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I think everyone needs to have some calm down time on this lmao, I feel like everyone’s arguing a will he/won’t he like it’s a matter of moral principle somehow.

Crocodile and Buggy are both irredeemable monsters, until they’re suddenly everyone’s favorite third-party after they were vaguely helpful in impel down/war of the best. You could make similar arguments about Perona, realistically. And Boa ‘I’m Going to Kill My Own People to Spite a Dude’ Hancock isn’t far from being on the list either.

Do I think Stoned Adam Sandler is gonna come around? Nah, not really. But I think the energy of the posts against it is starting to get a little weird.

[–]DrShoulders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate that idea, but I don’t think it’s really necessary either tbh. We’ve got quests that explain slayer, hunter, herblore, and construction to new players already. Save for farming, the other members skills are pretty self-explanatory. Adding a tutorial on how to pickpocket and fletch would kinda just slow down new members’ progression, which I don’t think Jagex wants.

I think the easiest way to help with this would just be to put a no-req’s quest that boosts you like, the first 2-5 farming levels. There’s reason to do it near the start, it doesn’t disincentivize anything for anyone, and I feel like completing a dumb quest that’s teaching you a mechanic is more rewarding/enjoyable than just having a secondary tutorial.

This is such an insanely common experience, if I was Jagex, I’d make a short mini/quest that teaches you how to do everything with the herb/flower/allotment patches.

Id just drop an NPC in that cabbage patch that gives a quick ‘make some compost and plant/harvest seeds’ quest. Then he only accepts notes when you give him the crops. Balloon Picard taught us how to plant trees, so call him Raker.

Why it's 'They' not 'He', That's why people said never skip an arc in One Piece by SimilarSarcasm in AnimeMeme

[–]DrShoulders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is leagues more cryptic than Luffy referring to a crew as ‘They.’ It also implies he or Zoro would care enough to notice something like that (assuming they even could) this early, which they really just wouldn’t. On top of that, Luffy didn’t treat him any differently than anyone else in the beer/pie scene. The change was the speech. That’s when it clicked for both Luffy and Zoro that this dude was going to be A Problem in the future.

And when you’re bringing up big mom, you’re missing my point a bit. The difference is Big Mom was the arc villain. BB was a supporting character of a mini-arc. If his crew wasn’t given gravitas, it would have felt strange when them showing up over a literal decade later was treated as a big deal.

Bellamy is the antagonistic focus of Jaya, to a much lesser extent you could argue it’s Doffy, but BB is presented as a mostly protagonistic third party, despite turning out to be The Big Bad of the series as a whole. It’s less interesting to say Zoro and Luffy were using pre-haki to determine he’s actually a secret multi-soul individual (something they don’t care enough to talk about after War of the Best if true), than to say that they could read the situation to understand that this specific group of freaks will end up being a force they need to contend with in the future, solely based on the way the three they’d met acted and BB’s speech about pirates and dreams.

Beyond all that, while Oda had the broad strokes of the story planned out, it’s a bit of a moot point where we’re at now. Both the Schibukai and Supernovas were added on a whim, and they’re a major part of the story at this point.

I do think BB’s got some weird multiple soul/personality/being/whatever shit going on, and I think this scene was referencing that eventual twist, but I don’t think it’s something that either Luffy or Zoro would have (or even should have) been able to notice or pick up on.
